Re: Seed Sources
This post is probably too late but the site is banana-tree.com not just bananatree. I've been dealing with them for over 10 years , I
visited the store about 10 years ago when they started selling palm seeds in consumer sized packages. I got 3 plants ,2 "apple"(manzano) and 1 Burmese blue just last month and they're doing great. If I recall the owners name was Fred although I'm not 100% on this. They were super knowledgeable and took the time to answer my questions. I think Musa basjoo was fairly new back then because I had just gotten a few and we had a long talk about them......B |

Re: Seed Sources
This is an excellent thread, is it allowed to rate suppliers for quality of seed, service, germination etc, or would that be libelous? Any lawyers out there?
I've tried a number of these suppliers with mixed results. |

Re: Seed Sources
What a difference a year makes. I'm not looking to purchase any new bananas at this point but by far my best plants have come from members. It never hurts to ask.

Re: Seed Sources
Indeed that would be ideal in a country like America where there is an abundance of nanners to purchase and swap, for those of us who live in the backwaters of the UK it's a little more tricky. I rely on germinating seeds to get most of my plants.
I've got a glut of formosana and sikkimensis seedlings at the moment so I'm chuffed. I now have something to swap and sell on ebay. |

Re: Seed Sources
I purchased my seeds from rarexoticseeds.com. I have had great germination rates on seeds I got from here.

Two of my Musa laterita just sprouted this week. That made me happy.

Re: Seed Sources
I've been using Kenibreed plants recently. You have to email them for a seed price list and they only sell seeds by the thousand, but the prices are very good. You will have to pay for a phyto and postage, but very good value. They are in India so seeds direct from the source and always fresh.
Kenibreed Plants - We deal in seeds of ornamental / flowering plant and some bulbous plants Ignore the seed range on the website, you need to email them for their full range. Also Europalms are very good Europalms - Home These are the only seed suppliers I use now, no one else compares in my opinion. |

Re: Seed Sources
Has anyone ordered from natureproducts.net/? They sell itinerans and Yunnanensis so I wonder if they know the difference.
Also what about the reliability of true seeds from trade winds fruit? I want to order from them because it look like they have some cool ones but I am worried they will be wrong. |

Re: Seed Sources
I know nothing about the seller, but I do know that it has been well established that Musa Ingens will not germinate from seed away from it's native environment and as such you will be wasting your money. Especially at 7.50 Euros for 5 seeds!!

Re: Seed Sources
All Musa seeds I bought there a few years ago, nothing germinated
I wouldn't try ingens anyway as it is doomed to fail for several reasons,.....just try another big nanner, even if it gets half as big it's too big to get inside during winter. Kind regards, Remko. |

Re: Seed Sources
For me europalms every time.
RPS - NO sunshine seeds - never used them, but appear to sell small quantities for large prices. This has always put me off. Have no idea about the U.S one sorry I will add a caveat: europalms have musa itinerans on their list, it is actually Yunnanensis. Also Ensete Perreri is actually Ensete Superbum and Musa Cheesmani is not Cheesmani I have no idea what it is. So baring this is in mind Europalms everytime. If you want banana seeds I have ensete glaucum, Musa Sikkimensis, Musa Balbisiana, Musa Griersonii also Palm seeds I have Trachycarpus Takil, T. Ukhlrensis or T Nainital all up for grabs and in good quantities and at good prices. Last edited by jmoore : 05-12-2012 at 12:56 PM. |

Re: Seed Sources
Yeah europalms looked like a good price. Do you have good germination rates with their banana seeds?
I am actually trying to get some Yunnanensis seeds, thanks for the offer though. |
