Re: Still Need your Help in Finding Fei Bananas
Looked for these myself. My understanding is that they are super tropical and outside of an ideal climate don't thrive at all.

Re: Still Need your Help in Finding Fei Bananas
Just FYI, it's illegal to take a banana plant from the Big Island to the mainland. We have bunchy top, Panama disease, nematodes, and corm weevils here. You might be able to do so if they get inspected first or come from a certified nursery.

Re: Still Need your Help in Finding Fei Bananas
True Lactan should be an easy task,
Let's see what I can do for you, Since I know a guy from the Philippines who lives here and have many types of bananas from his homeland and he grows them all near his house, So I can try and ask.

Re: Still Need your Help in Finding Fei Bananas
Hey Rob,
Thanks for your message, I am aware of the presence of those Pests and Diseases on the Big Island, I am a very Cautious guy I have also studied Botanics Formally, So I'm not going to put My country and collection at risk, I am more interested about learning and seeing the Plant ...If I will ever get any type of Fei it will be only from a USDA Certified and Pests Free Nursery.

Re: Still Need your Help in Finding Fei Bananas
Cool, I have tried so hard and I even offered as much as $300 for them. In the states the cavendish lacatan is very common. True Lakatan is the favorite of the Philippines

Re: Still Need your Help in Finding Fei Bananas
LiorGal: Where are you located? What many people tend to overlook is that Fei bananas are rare for a reason, they are not easy to grow.

Re: Still Need your Help in Finding Fei Bananas
I wish I did know a nursery source. They're a rarity from any source here. They've been the most difficult for me to grow. In years I've never gotten fruit and nearly every plant has died within a year, even after they seem happy for the first several months. Good luck on your quest!

Re: Still Need your Help in Finding Fei Bananas
Hello Again Dear Rob,
I wish I did as well, I've been looking for those Fei's for so long, and Couldn't find any, I had a dream to see them all: Ayuri, Afara, Portia But I Couldn't even find one Variety yet, I know that they grow on Papua New Guinea and they are Called 'Karat', Also they can be found on French Polynesia, It's so disappointing that no one is Tissue culturing these, only in Species Preservation Projects. I'm a Banana Addict, that's it, I have said it out loud for the first time.. PLEASE HELP ME GOD !.
