41 fingers!!!

Hello all!

It's official, I'm going to have 41 bananas on my Dwarf Orinoco and I was wondering if that is good or bad? I have it in a sunroom/banana building where it stays year round.

Well any edible banana's is success. :^) A flower with all male flowers sucks.. Patty & I know.. There may be others out there?.. Congrat's :^)

Ya it is still exciting believe me!! But I noticed today that it has started making the little tiny ones that fall off. I just have so many people wanting bananas! Lol I'm still proud though. I wonder why they just all the sudden stop making fruit and start making the little flowers that just fall off? Now, I'm crossing my fingers for the Dwarf Red?

Thank you Dave! It has been a long time coming! It's been so cool finding this website!! Meeting other Banana growers! Especially now that I finally have one in fruit.

Jamie- no worries on your banana. The flowers that are falling off are the male flowers. Once this begins to happen, your banana is basically finished setting fruit. You can give it a week or so and then cut the male bud off several inches below the last hand of fruit. This will allow the plant to put the rest of its energy into developing the fruit rather than wasting energy producing more male flowers that won't develop into anything anyhow. Congrats on your bloom and fruit!

I appreciate the help! I don't totaly know what I'm doing but finally I have achieved bananas! I will definatly do that. I can't wait to give the bananas a try. It's ashame that all those male flowers can't be fruit.

41 fingers is great! Better than my bunch last yr--just 19 but they were good!

I have to say if would have just got 5 bananas at this point I probably would have been thrilled!! So I can't really complain. I guess I was just hoping for more.

Hey Cassie,
thank you!! It has been hard fought but really exciting. I just had electric heat the first year and we had a bad ice storm and I lost every banana I had . So this time I switched to propane and now things have worked really well.the banana building (as everyone calls it ) is doing great! I just wish I could go out in the front yard and plant a banana like what's in your picture and watch it grow. But the challenge has been fun. Congradulations to you too on that awesome banana.
