Pinwheel Addicted?

How many of you have shoplights, potting mix, stubborn seeds, experiments, and plants in strange places in your house. Do you eat breakfast with your Banana plants at the kitchen table? Whats the craziest thing you do to grow Bananas?

Sounds like you've got it bad. I love my nanners, but there is a limit. Probably, the silliest thing I do is lug hundreds of pounds of banana plants in and out of my house and greenhouse twice a year. Most people would just let them die. By-the-way, I built the greenhouse just to house my nanners. I went around collecting scrap wood and old windows from people's garbage piles on the sides of the road. I guess that counts as something extreme. I don't consider it extreme, only economical.

awesome greenhouse! thanks for sharing... not too big and not too small. any interior shots?

I also drag all of my potted plants in at least 3-4 times a year. that's about as extreme as I have gotten, but I am thinking of getting strung lights and using a frost protection wrap this year.

I use a heater on nights that dip 34F or below. I put up shade cloth/curtains because the sun kept scorching the leaves. I trim the leaves down because my goal is to keep the plants from freezing and injury, not to keep them actively growing (it's too difficult to control the temperature without driving up my power bill...yes, the greenhouse is insulated). I have discovered that the plants--bananas, pineapples, citrus, and avocado--can handle short periods of 34 degrees (no more than a couple hours). No need to heat the greenhouse to 50F and 60F degrees all the time.

That's a big 10-4 on your greenhouse! Nice character. Probably loads of fun putting it together too!

I'm at work each weekday by 6AM so I wake up just 10mins earlier than usual so I can checkup/water plants. I know this is the best time to make sure they start the day out unfolding nicely. Not really cold outdoors yet, but pretty dark, so I'm glad I have lights. But yeah, some of you may have noticed this photo.

Too Extreme? Nah, not even a little.
