Ae Ae flower
After removing the brown mush that the frost created I found this flag leaf and a flower emerging. This plant is only about 7 feet of spindly pseudo stem and has no leaves now. I'm worried that the plant has not grown any pups yet and now it has to power a flower bud! What to do? Cut it down and hope for pups or wait til spring and see what happens?
Here is a couple pics of my weather beaten Ae Ae. |

Re: Ae Ae flower
In August two Ae Ae plants blew over in a squall. The biggest was too heavy to replant. Unfortunately it did not pup, it just rotted. I planted the smaller one and after 3 weeks it had only put out two leaves and then a flower. I cut off the flower and 5 pups showed up. But there were too late in the season for such small plants to survive. I'm sorry to say your chances are slim.
Below are the two captions that show the pups (all died) I just gave it some potassium nitrate to increase the green precentage of the leaf. Sept. 30, 2006 Oct. 8, All of the growth was lost Dec. 15 http://togofcoralgables.com/AeAebananas.aspx |
