Ae Ae Fruit Getting Ripe
My giant Ae Ae finally produced fruit a few months ago and the bunches are fattening up nicely. (Love those strips on the fruit skins!) Now I just hope the fruit ripens before the cool weather arrives and stops the process. The replacement banana plant next to it is growing like a weed.
Here's some pics. |

Re: Ae Ae Fruit Getting Ripe
Great looking plant. Hope you get to eat the fruit. Since your in zone 10 would it be practical to try to extend the growing season with some plastic over a wood frame? If I had a fruiting Ae Ae I'd do just about anything to insure success!

Congrats, Gary! Maybe I'll need to pay a visit down there sooner than I expected.

Re: Ae Ae Fruit Getting Ripe
We're going to have a week of Santa Ann weather so the fruit should ripen up nicely.

The problem is that my Ae Ae is well over 20 feet tall. There is just no way to cover it. Here's a photo. Can you see it next to my house in the center of the picture? That's a 20 foot Australian Tree Fern next to it. We have been having 90 degree temperatures lately so I'm still hoping I'll get some ripe fruit before the cool weather arrives. |
