Definitely a record for this seller and I believe it's the highest price paid on eBay in 2008. I've probably bid on 50 of them this year, wanting a backup for mine. Scot got one from this seller for something like $102 not long ago.

Where is Siapan MP, United States?? Even for me that is to much to spend for an AeAe. I purchased two 6 foot plus footers in 5-gallons last month for less than that. I picked them up in So Cal from a forum member. I guess if you have to have it e-bay is the place to buy it.

I must have been lucky, I think I got it for $96 plus s&h. This seller has been good to me on that and other transactions. My only concern was some fungus on a few plants, but it was just after Fay hit, so I was pleased to get anything in decent shape.
He is replacing my 2 Nam Wa Pearls. I think they croaked during shipping due to heat stress.

Saipan is the capitol of the United States Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, but Scot told me previously and posted above that the seller actually ships from Florida.

Most on eBay have been going for $150-$180 or so. Some SoCal sources are as low as $100 for a large plant, but gas can be a killer for many of us!

I bought one from this seller about 2 weeks ago for $102. Great plant shipped with leaves intact and the box had a return adress in Hollywood, Florida. Sometimes somebody really wants something and you have to know what you are willing to spend. Any luck with TC of this plant (yes I know all about the chimera thing but somebody like Gabe will figure out a way to do it).

I do hope to be able to give him a pup at some point. I only have one pup at the moment and it is no where near large enough to safely remove yet. Plus, it's promised back to the person who gave, yes I said gave, me my Ae-Ae. I'd like to get one back-up for myself and then I'd be more than happy to provide Gabe with a pup if someone hasn't beaten me to it.

It sounds like many of you have bought from this person and are still happy. I bought a banana from Thialand and it took one month to make it to me. Well, it was dead on arrival. It is in the green house hoping soming will emerge from the soil. The seller said don't worry you will get it fast! I am still fighting with the seller. Shipping from Florida makes me happy!

It is extremely rare for an Ae Ae to sell for less than $100, though it seems that this particular eBay seller's indication that he's from Saipan probably has made some buyers reluctant to bid (until yesterday!). I have a search saved and watch every Ae Ae on eBay and Scot's is the first I've seen which went below $100. I have never seen an Ae Ae sell for $50, though I hear that does happen in Hawaii were they are much more common.

I know of one source that sells them on-site in the USA for $100 when they have them and another that sells them for $125, but most are much higher. Why should they sell them for less when they can easily get more on eBay?

The 6 footer was $180 and I think my first one was like $125-135. I, too have the standing search going on eBay. Most of the time you will see them for much less than $80 until the final seconds of the auction. Then it is anyone's guess.

I'll sell you a dead Ae Ae corm for $1 You can have your choice of two and it will set an all-time low price for Ae Ae!

Third time is a charm, for me, as I finally have one that has learned to like me.

The bottom line is some of us can afford to buy plants for any price if we wish. Some of us like AeAe's and some don't. We all have the choice to decide what we like. The prices on ebay fluctuate for all goods. I have also followed AeAe plants on ebay and have bid on many. I have won several. The link below is for a five footer that sold for $60.99. I unfortunately missed that one. If you want an AeAe and bid on e-bay you should be prepared to spend $100 to $250. Many online nurseries also have them for sale for similiar prices.

I believe that particular auction was the all-time record low price and I had let AnnaJW and Steelviper know about that auction several days before it ended. I don't know if either of them bid on it, though, even though they are located relatively close to the seller. IMO, the auction was structured poorly by the seller (cagary, also a IBS member) because he didn't have a reserve price and would not ship that large plant, so he had a limited market and limited marketing period. His has sold 4 or so other Ae Ae and, if I recall correctly they all went in the neighborhood of $150-$200. Those were smaller plants that he would ship so there were more bidders.

Is there really anybody that does not like an Ae Ae? Blasphemy!

Like Scot, I'm subscribed to eBay searches for Ae Ae and get notified everytime there is one listed. I'm a bit crazy, I guess, because I think I've bid on about 50 of them this year in hopes of getting a "bargain" backup.

One friend in Hilo, Hawaii says Ae Ae sell there for $10 but another friend in Kona said that he sells them for $50 when he can get one and they go quickly. One of the more active Ae Ae sellers on eBay is from Hilo and regularly gets around $200. I sometimes have wondered if he is buying up pups locally for $10, but I really doubt they go for that even though my friend that made that claim operates a nursery himself and should know.

I get the impression that there have been about twice as many Ae Ae on eBay this year as last year. A couple of new sellers have more than picked up the absence of Stokes. I'm curious - does anybody know why Stokes isn't selling bananas on eBay this year. They are still selling some items but I haven't seen any bananas from them at all this year. Seems weird.

My Ae Ae has put out two new leaves in about 7-10 days and I'm hoping for pups soon, though I won't be selling any anytime soon. I like them a lot and want to get several going since I've got plenty of room for more. I guess it's obvious I'm an addict, or fiend, with Ae Ae. When working on my farm I like to just look at my Ae Ae several times a day and the work doesn't seem so bad (today was irrigating alfalfa in 100F weather after being up odd hours last night which I'll repeat again tonight). Maybe my Ae Ae needs a night light......

Harvey

P.S. cagary also has sold some pretty large mangosteen trees on eBay. One went for something like $158 and the other went for about $53. I wish I had set up a snipe bid for the second one.

Harvey,

I too am crazy for AeAe. I was the one who purchased two 6 footers from that seller in SoCal. I drove down and picked them up. I have also purchased from the ebay seller in Hilo. They are really nice and have great plants. I will be in Maui for a week in November and then a week in Kona. If I see any that are cheap would you like me to ship one to you (or more)?
I will be on vacation and plant shopping. Thanks for the Ele Ele info. I will stay away.
