Re: Anyone order from The Banana Tree before?
Got a big Dwarf Orinoco corm from them like 20 or so years ago . Still growing descendants here in S Fla. This one is guaranteed to fruit in 9 months from a healthy pup. Very cold hardy also. The DO will fruit in the ground in NJ if you plant a big potted pup that overwintered in the house. Probably will have to harvest green cause the 3 to 4 month ripening period is not an option.

Re: Anyone order from The Banana Tree before?
The Banana Tree is a very reputable company. They've been around since 1955. Their website is http://www.banana-tree.com.
I purchased my very first banana corms from them about 20 years ago—a Valery and a Cuban Red Dwarf. I still have descendants of the Valery. The Cuban Red Dwarf died due to frost. Both corms were large, between baseball and softball size. In the intervening years I have purchased numerous seeds and corms from them, most recently some heliconia corms. One of the corms was slightly damaged and rotted soon after planting since the heliconia are very sensitive to rot. I contacted them and the corm was replaced immediately, at no charge, with the replacement sent via Priority Mail. I would not hesitate to recommend them. Re: Anyone order from The Banana Tree before?
I have ordered from The Banana Tree at least 20 times (mostly for seeds). The bananas i've received were small, but have always done well. The biggest, best bananas I ever ordered online have been from Stokes Tropicals. Sadly, their selection has gone WAY down.

Re: Anyone order from The Banana Tree before?
Those look like they're a decent size and will do well for ya. Seems that they are healthy and will probably take off in due time with a little care/nurturing.

Re: Anyone order from The Banana Tree before?
Thanks Bryan, there looks like a little pup coming off the Hua Moa. I got them potted for now. They even came with care instructions. I'm satisfied.

Re: Anyone order from The Banana Tree before?
I've ordered from bananatree.com before.. and my experience was NOT good. They sent me the wrong tree, Bay Leaf seeds that were not viable, and they didn't bother responding to any of my emails.
The worst part of my experience is that I had to wait a whole year to find out if I got the right tree or not(Manzano). It turned out to be some type of plantain.. and it wasn't even as good as a typical grocery store plantain! Cost me a week of work to dig it out and chop it into mulch too. I'm sorry to say, but I highly doubt that they sent you the plants you ordered. Their reviews on Dave's Watch Garden are largely negative. The scoop on 'The Banana Tree (Banana-Tree.com)' Also, the fact that they are based in a state where bananas do not grow leads me to be skeptical. I highly recommend Welcome to Going Bananas of Homestead, Florida! I've visited the farm and know first hand that they have excellent quality plants and excellent customer service. I can't speak from experience as to how well they handle internet orders, but they have 100% positive feedback on Daves Watchdog. I've said it before... I wish I had found that watchdog site years ago! |
