Army worms taking my yard

Army worms are eating my grass to the ground ive never seen this many before i put seven dust around all of my bananas it seems to be working I worked on a farm years ago i seen army worms destroy a crop of rice in one night.i live on the crowleys ridge hills i have never seen them here.

I had never heard of armyworms before, Shannon. After Googling, I'm glad I don't have them. Good luck. Sounds like Sevin is indeed the way to go.

The seven dust is holding them off my bananas across form my house 450 acre cattle farm i talked to the guy who owens the ranch he told me they lost all of the alfalfa hay and bermuda hay do to army worms they have been spaying insecticide i guess they pushed them into my yard grasshopper are out of control here to i have never seen anything like this .

Sevin in the liquid form is more effective than the powder, or if you have a pesticide applicators license obtain "Intrepid". See this related post: How to rid all bugs from soil in pots?

parasitic nematodes and Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) are natural effective controls of army worms.

A few army worms -- yes. An infestation -- no. I hope you never experience the problem. Further, BT is largely ineffective in the western U.S. due to natural enemies that consume it.

if you had chickens in your yard they would wipe them out in an instant. Chickens and ducklings are greedy eaters of any larvae..

You don't understand the nature of army worms. A farmer can have a partial infestion of 100 sq.ft. in the afternoon, try treating it with a bacterial or pyrethrin/pyrethroid/saffra approach, then wake up the next day to find the critters have completely destroyed 40 to 100 acres.

Chickens are a poor choice in most situations because they also destroy plants.

I have been useing malathion around my bananas and then using seven dust.

guinea fowl are great, they dont scrach, or touch garden plants. Adult guinea fowls diet consests of about 90% bugs... crickets, grasshoppers, aphids, ticks, etc...

I have some guinea fowl and they do great at eating bugs, I havent had any problems yet.

Guinea are great my mom had alot of them there were no ticks in her yard i cant have ay here dogs would get them dogs roam free there are no leash laws here. there are 2 pit bulls that are killing cattle so far they have got 10 cattle there was 3 the farmer shot one and killed it it had the cow by the neck.

The Guinea Fowl are great for removing aphids, larger caterpillars, giant whitefly nests, etc. They will do nothing to control underground larvae which natural pyrethrum extract does so well plus all the other nuisance insects -- and at far less expense. If you are growing herbaceous plants then the Guinea Fowl will both pluck and trample the seedlings. Guinea Fowl will not control army worms because they can't consume them fast enough and will instead spread the little hitch-hikers far and wide. I hope that in the future people here with no direct experience with a particular pest or control method refrain from posting instead of indirectly contributing to the spread of a world-wide agricultural problem.

I never had a problem with my hens disturbing my banana plants. I suppose your comments are relevant if this site was called tomatoes.org or spinach.org.

Bifenthrin (7.9%) works well to kill Armyworms. I know this because I spray it on them for my job. Use a dilution rate of one ounce per gallon. The brand name we use is Menace, and it is effective against a very large number of insects and spider mites. I've seen Armyworms destroy half of a yard almost overnight here in Nashville.
