Default Banana bunch with no leaves at Will Rogers Beach

On the way out to surf fish last weekend I noticed this small banana matt in the parking lot planter at Will Rogers State Beach in Santa Monica. The thing that caught my eye was a fruit bunch that was about 3 feet off the ground. Upon closer inspection I could see that the p-stem had either been cut down or died back last winter and it had a fruit bunch growing from the corm with no signs of ever having any leaves on it. Wild!
