Drummer Banana Chain....

Okay, got your attention? I know this should probably be posted in another section, but I wanted as many eyes to see this as possible. I need everyone's input!!!!! Someone contacted me with an idea that may be fun for alot of people on this forum. But, there could be some problems with it and I wanted to get everyone's input on it that cared to give me their two cents worth.
Anyway, here goes:
The banana chain would go something like this. Say 100 banana (or some amount) bucks to post..first person posts a banana plant they are seeking, second person to post send a corm to the first person and then posts a banana corm they are seeking. Third sends a corm to 2nd and posts a corm they are seeking and so-on. The person sending the corm would be responsible for shipping charges.
Okay, there would have to be some kind of rules in place and it would only work as long as folks kept it going. The chain would be broken if no one was willing to share a banana that someone else was looking for. I also think that what the person was looking for would have to be fairly common and not something like an aeae, which by the way, I would gladly pay at least 5000 bananabucks for!!! Anyway, I know for us climatically challenged folks, the growing season is drawing to a close fairly soon, so we would either have to have some way to overwinter, or jump in the chain come spring.
I think this could be fun, but I know there can be some problems with it. Please let me know what you think and if you would be interested. Any and all input is appreciated.

I like to do things like this. My only problem is some of my bananas are not marked. Well I guess a lot I don't know what they are. I have a lot of ones that are the same bananas. I don't throw bananas away. I have gave 8 away this year and about 6 of them were 4ft tall. So I am willing but it could be a problem for me because of unmaked bananas. You see what everyone else wants to do.

Thumbs up Re: Banana Chain....

What agreat idea!!! You hit it on the head as far as most of us in the colder spots not wanting to ship or chance recieving during winter. There's not much for common bananas that I'm still really wanting (10,000 banana bucks for a "Pisang Ambon"!) but will gladly send what I have and maybe give away what I receive. Then again another D. Brazilian would be nice! As long as everyone's honest and prompt could be a great long lasting feature here.

If the general consensus is positive I'll post 100 banana bucks for one of Vickies unmarked pups that have a parent that flowered.

How about trying to set up a closed loop (or several closed loops)--where you have people list what they want and what they have for trade--then where there are matches put together as many as possible.

For example: # 1 wants Dwarf Namwah, has Raji Puri, Dwarf Cavendish
# 2 wants Lady Finger, has Dwarf Red, Orinoco, Dwarf Cavendish
#3 wants RP, has Saba, Misi Luki, Lady Finger
#4 wants DC, has DN and manzano

Then #4 could send to #1, #1 to #3, #3 to #2, # 2 to #4.

Sounds awesome! Unfortunately, I would have to buy some pups to send along as the beginning of this growing season was unforgiving here in the Northeast!

It would kinda be hard for you to get in the chain if you don't know what type of banana you have, even it Bob would be willing to pay bananabucks for one. You would have to be able to provide someone that is posting a wanted banana before you could even get into the mix. Think we need to ponder this idea some more...

I like the idea, but wouldn't a closed loop limit what is available? Also, I would think someone would be stuck without real quick. Something to think about, though. This may be something folks on here that are close can do themselves if they haven't already... Neat concept though...

I think the chain sounds like a great way to expand everyone's selection of banana's at little cost.

You would have to wait til someone posted something that you had and could share before you could take your turn at posting what you wanted. I know it would be tough on some, but I promise, it won't take long for you to have loads of different bananas to share.

Thats what I was thinking. In the three months that I have been active here I've gained four additional nanners so I know it can be done.

Isn't that called a pyramid scheme? lol I'm just kidding. I think it could work too since no actual money is changing hands, no one will become greedy or corrupt.

I know I have an unfair advantage of living in an urban part of FL. But you should really hit up Craigslist from time to time. There are often people letting plants go for rediculously low prices.

Only problem with Craigslist is that you don't know much about the person you are purchasing from. I am usually a bit leery of buying online from an individual, but have had NOTHING but great dealings with all the folks I have traded/bought/sold with on here!!! This is THE best place I have found to get plants from and am never dissappointed...

Vickie, check and you should have a few more bananabucks than a few minutes ago... all you have to do is click on "donate" under the person's name and it will come up for you to add a comment and how many bananabucks you want to donate to them. Let me know if you got your stipend
