Default Banana Greenhouse

Hello Everyone,

I Am New To Growing Bananas. I Bought My First Plant Two Months Ago, Purchased 20 Since. I Am Really Getting In To This. Now I Want A Greenhouse. I Am Wondering How Much, A Simple Unheated Greenhouse Will Help In Growing Bananas, In San Diego. Do I Even Need One, Zone 10 , I Think. Any Information Is Appreciated.

Thank You

You are zone 10 in terms of low winter temps, allowing you to grow a wide variety of subtropical bananas without shelter. But, your minimal high temperatures and short period of summer heat restricts you to those that will ripen in a relatively short period of time. A few miles inland from you Jon (pitangadiego) is growing 200 bananas without a greenhouse. Up at Quail Botanical Gardens you can walk down "Banana Boulevard" and see very old plats of bananas doing just fine in the open. You would only need a greenhouse if you became ill enough to desire growing some truly tropical varieties.

welcome welcome welcome!!!. we nana growers are a one of a kind breed. we see the most beautiful leaves and foilage in the world and cant stop at one plant. you should have seen my daughters jeep when we went to the lawn and garden show last feb., i had 6 basjoos, 1 musella, one bloodleaf nana, and a few other things packed in the back. so you cant just get one nana tree, we nana critters have to buy out the whole lot!
