Banana growth

Here is some growth progress of my bananas this year. First bed is ensete maurelii and musa basjoo.

So, based on the above pictures, how big do you think they will get by the end of the season (October 1st)?

Very nice. You should get a couple feet hopefully out of some, maybe more from the orinoco's & basjoos. :^)

I'd say a good foot or more a month,depending on how much you feed and water them.
I grow my bananas right where I compost all my winter cuttings of all my garden materials,so they are fed continuously,then I feed on a weekly bases of miracle grow,and I get about 2ft of growth a month.
Yours are really looking good and healthy,so keep up what your doing!

You can accelerate their growth by fertilizing them everyday with miracle grow, for me me that would be a labor of love. Given the longer daylight hours you are getting they could be double the size of the last picture by the end of October. Don't forget to water the leaves too not just the roots.

I wanted to make this suggestion as well and maybe it's a little late being mid summer and all but a nice touch to northern tropical landscaping are annual palm trees. Many people spend 100's of dollars in the springtime on flowers but a person could also spend that same money on cheap large queen palms that could stay in the ground and give a nice tropical touch. Sometimes you see queen palms or other palms for as little as 4-10 dollars at home depot or lowes and those are the deals that make it worthwhile.

Thanks for the comments guys. I do fertilize with Miracle Grow every week as per the package instructions. I hit all my palms and bananas with it and I'm noticing MUCH better growth this year compared to last. This trachycarpus fortunei has been in the ground since July 2008.

Here's a yard overview shot for you guys.

You can probably get up to 3-4' total growth this season. But if you overwinter properly, you can achieve 7-10' next season! Keep doing what you're doing. Your yard looks wonderful!

I think they have gotten some great growth! I think most of them will double in size by the end of the growing season if the weather continues to act the way it is!

do you cover that windwill palm with something in the winter? it survives zone 5?
