Default Banana mindbender
My son's elementary school has banana plants located in some of the strangest places. One plant in particular was planted on a tiny strip of grass along a fence that was maybe 2 feet wide. A very unusual place to put a banana plant given the nutrient and water requirements. Well, this plant to my surprise had a very healthy batch of hands hanging from it. I couldn't believe it.
Does anyone know what kind of banana plant grows well even under poor conditions?

I would say most all will grow under those conditions,

You didn't describe the level of sunlight that it gets in that spot... If that spot gets ample sunlight and warmth, all of the other conditions can be replicated... Even light and warmth can be replicated...

All that said, what Tony said is pretty much spot on...

But the soil is mostly sandy in Florida, so I doubt any banana plant will grow well without adequate care.

And, as PR-Giants has shown us, grass clippings and sand is enough to sustain vigorous growth... So, as long as the school cuts it's sandy grass, and rain continues to fall in Florida, it should be just fine...
