Does anyone know what bananas are grown in CR? I just bought land there

Nearly all of them grow there. Where did you buy land?

Hi /simply bananas, thanks for your reply. I bought a lot in the Santiago Springs development (Google it) south of San Isidro, overlooking the Valley of the General. I'm hoping it is large enough to finally grow all the tropical plants I've wanted to grow all my life since I first went to Florida at the age of nine.

I would like to be able to grow Saba, Ingens, nagensium, balbisiana, other edible ones like Hua Moa, thousand finger, monkey finger (they saw monkeys along the stream the week before I visited) the ornamentals (Siam Ruby?) and the ensetes.

I should have asked which ones are available in the country. Are there any banana "collectors" in Costa Rica?

I have seen balbisiana and the saba-like praying hands(which I found odd). I heard there was a banana collector/garden near San Jose. Some of those you mentioned are seeded.

I have two from Costa Rica. 1) Called San Jose because it came from San Jose, Costa Rica many years ago. It is tall, and makes huge bunches of very large, angular bananas. Everyoine thinks it is a plantain because of the shape and size. 2) Is a short plant called Malango, which looks a lot like a Dwarf Orinocco - I am waiting for the first bunch of fruit to ripen, probably this month.
