This is my 16th time at the market and I have noticed that not a market day goes by without a customer saying something lewd about my bananas. I get it from the women and the men.

My favorite one recently was from a woman with a wink who asked if the little ones "try harder to please you"

I've spoken with many people at plant sales representing my club. Amazing the things you hear. I bring my banana pups to sell and most of the newbies freak out when told I fert them by the pound, not teaspoonfuls. Many have walked away when they hear what the plants require. Even when I point out our local AG supplier sells fert real cheap.

Real plant people point out what they want and don't quibble about price. They are in the minority.

Then there are those who want suckers for free - and they don't quit trying to knock down the price. I had one whack-job Master Gardener come back to the booth 5 times. At the end of the day I gave him a sucker to make him go away.

I don't mind haggling on price, but some people want everything for nothing. For those people I usually add to the original price just to see the look on there face. Total look of disbelief.

I sell macho plantains 5/$1 and I get people trying to knock me down on price, and I'm like walk over to that Publix and see what they are selling for over there. Probably 2/$1 or 3/$1. For the past 2 months I was selling Fwang Tung Carambolas which are big and sweet for $1 each. Someone actually had the nerve to tell me I was expensive. I looked right at them and told them that I was at Publix this morning buying toothpicks and saw Carambolas for $2.50, so you are actually getting a fantastic deal on a better product. And then you have the Luis Vuitton and Rolex set trying to get you down on prices like it's some type of game. I will come down on price though if someone wants to buy a lot of product. We can make a deal if you are looking to buy 10 Hua Moas and 25 macho plantains

Are you kidding me! You are expensive! 20 cents for a plantain! Come on man Ill give you 15 cents each, no more!
And can I have the star fruit 3 for a dollar?

Seriously though I know How you feel.
Its chick season now, so I'm up to my ears in peeping monsters.
I sell them cheap, practically give them away. But still there are those people that complain, and like already said just want everything for nothing....
