Bananas at a local Utah nursery
I was at a local nursery that I visit often and decided to take a couple pictures of their banana selection. They are marked as Basjoo and Dwarf Giant Banana
Musa acuminata (Enano Gigante) though, I'm not sure what the second type actually is. So I have two questions: 1. Does anyone know what a Dwarf Giant Banana Musa acuminata (Enano Gigante) actually is? 2. They're listed at $25, is that a good price for that size? (I'm just curious) |

Re: Bananas at a local Utah nursery
Enano Gigante should be a Cavendish type, dwarf in size, at about 6'. Price is good for the plants in the pix.

Re: Bananas at a local Utah nursery
Wow! I worked at a Utah nursery for years that sold cactus and tropicals and they never sold anything other than super dwarfs. I tried convincing them to buy basjoo (back when it was finally starting to be affordable).
Utah has some great places to buy tropical houseplants! Here in Las Vegas, the best place is the big box stores. When I want a hard-to-find plant, i'm off to Utah or California. |

Re: Bananas at a local Utah nursery
Yeah, I've found some really great deals on high quality (if sometimes small in size) plants around here. I need to make my way up to Salt Lake to check out some of the nurseries up there too.
