Default Been Asked Before But....

I have many new pups on the pups that I bought a couple of months ago. Some of them are planted on half whiskey barrels. They are doing great!
I have a dwarf cavendish and Sweetheart that have 3 pups each, One pup on Dwarf Brazilian but this is planted on the ground.
OK I think I read here that you can keep 3 as maximum pups you are allowed to keep, the rest you discard. I also think I read that if it is in a container you can only have one pup if you want a nice fruit.
Now am I correct to assume tha the above statement is correct?
Please ascertain that it is so.
And if I want to separate the pups and let it live, how big will they be before I separate them from the mother plant?

You saw the Dwarf Cav grove that the pup I sent you came from. There were 2 pseudostems with large bunches of fruit, 4 half grown stems and now about 4 little pups from just new to about 8 inches. I can't bring myself to cut off and toss pups just to manage the clump to 3. All of my clumps have at least 6 stems in them. I have more bananas than I can use so I really don't care if I could get 20 more bananas per stem if I cut them back. The only situation I really notice is the first bunch from a clump is small, next is better and by the 3rd, really nice. Some are different. My Double Moai and Red Iholene have their first fruit now and both are real good size.
So I would do what you like. I do agree if in a container, probably one to varied size pups and the mother is about it.

As for size to remove a pup, look at the various sizes I sent you. The Ele Ele was a bit smaller than I would normally send but I needed to get them off so I gave them to you smaller than usual (and price was right). I would think maybe 8 inches as a minimum although a lot smaller will usually make it.
How are they growing?
Terry

Terry:
I thouht the ice creams were not going to make it but when the weather becomes hotter they are just now sending its frst spear and started grwing real fast. The large elele did not make t perhaps I watered too much but the smaller one as a freebee surprisingly are making it. It's green and a new spear is trying to come out but the dwarf cav is the one that is sending a lot of pups. 3 at the moment
I'll keep them in pots until I am sure they can survive on the ground this time.
My mistake was I planted all of them on the ground the first time when the temt were still kinda low. After a month and there was no activity I dug them up and planted them back in pots.
The Misi Luki I thought were safe but for 2 months there were no growth and I read at the forum with a mushy rotten center and sure enough, at the base were nothing but rotten flesh. So I Removed al of the rotten part which created a big hole in the center but the sides of the corm were still white and fresh. I dip it to the 3% hydrogen peroxide for 3 minutes and washed it. I planted it in a semidry mixture of bark and peat and perlite. That was 3 days ago and I saw the beginning of a bump at the sides which appear to be a beginning of a spear forming but it is still too early to tell.
After I correspond with you I met a guy at a weekend plant expo who invited me to attend who used to be a member of this forum and he was selling bananas too in gallon pots. Plus he dug me some large pups and sold me those at the expo.
I bought a lot from him plus I gave a bunch to my sister.
I'll post most of my new bananas soon at my photo gallery.

Sorry Jarred, my mistake.
His name is David Johnson from Modesto.
He was a member of a closed Banana Forum- Banana Villa I think. I took a chance to email him when I saw his post 2 years ago selling bananas at that forum.
After 2 years of non- posting I was lucky he replied back.
Then we chat a lot about his bananas and his CRFG (California Rare Fruit Growers)membership.

Ahh, ok, you had me for a whirl when you said whomever it was used to be a member here.
We don't have many people that go in that category. I guessed Jon because I know Jon goes to farmers markets etc out there in California and sells banana plants.
But yes, Mike did close down his bananavilla project and that would certainly explain it.

2 years for a reply! never give up hope, huh

Congrats on the new bananas, Ben,
If we are talking about the same David, he is a very nice fellow, posts on Cloudforest cafe some. He seems to know his stuff about bananas among other things.
