Default The best $30 I have spent!!

For $30 they delivered 8 yards of great looking mulch. This comes from the county green waste program. My plants and soil love it! Four days off, lots of buckets to haul.

That car costs more than mine, my wife's, our third and my dad's combined.....then again, being in santa barbara, that house is prolly worth more than 10 in my neighborhood.

Anyways, I might have to find out if my area has some program like that.....most places, it's 30 bucks just for the delivery.

This is one of those wonderful lucky moments, that I also had.
I bought a whole load of horse manure (for symbolic 1$) - about 3x1.1,5m and more than 500kg. At first I thought - well, I can get it to compost... but as I was trying to get rid of the last 50kg (not saying about other 700), I said "no more" to good deals like this...

Wow..that is quite a step-up in grade on the front yard. Is the back yard even, sloped or tiered? Hmmn...I seem to remember the chicken coop being surrounded by even ground.

Anyway..mulch is awesome....we just have to watch for invasive vines (never ending battle).

Nice job (keeps one out of trouble on the weekends spreading the mulch..lol).

The grade sucks! The irragation was a real challange. It is level in the backyard and then I have another hill that the grade is twice as bad as the one in front. The chickens areon level ground.
Backyard. Behind this is a monster hill. It will be bananas, bamboo and palms.

To add to my back hurting, I decided to split 4 cords of wood today.

Wow...you are making the rest of us look like such slackers...

We lay newspapers (except for the glossy adver.) and cardboard (egg shells are good as well) under the mulch (extra layer of carbon).

In F-L-A we have to be careful with the chopped wood as dry wood termites luv it.....

Anyway..stop all the work...or I will have to go trim all the citrus trees in our yard.....I am never showing my wife your pics....Chickens...mulch..chopping wood....her list would expand so fast....:-)

California has been hit hard by the recession but there are areas throughout the country that are affected much less. Santa Barbara has not been affected as much by the down real estate market. It is hard to find a nice 3 bedroom 2 bath 1500 square foot home for under $800,000 (you don't get a lot for your money). The market here is really stupid! Being a financial planner, I would be foolish to be upside down in my home. One reason the country is in a recession is that people over-extended them selves by buying homes they can't afford, taking equity out to purchase cars and crap and live paycheck to paycheck. Sorry if I am coming off strong. Your comment is to general. Not all of us are feeling the recession!

Prices have not dipped much here and they keep saying on the radio we were in one of the lucky areas of the country. Yet until recently every time I went out for a walk with the dog there was another house for sale and quite a few that were up more than a year. I've seen 3-4 sell recently but it appears a lot of the others just eventually decided not to sell.

Those crazy prices over in CA were part of the problem in the first place my house was $140k new in 2001 for 2381sf. A friend of mine just came back from somewhere in CA where some of his friends with $800k homes can't get even 400k now.

ewitte, prices across California vary a great deal. None of the prices themselves are crazy or a cause of the problem. As Andrew pointed out, the problem has been people buying more than they could afford and borrowing more money than they can repay. I know of poeple with million dollar homes which are paid for and I know people who bought a home for $150,000 with more owed on them than they are worth and now out of work. Which person in this case was crazy?

California is a very large state with diverse housing and climates. I had someone recently tell me that my climate was warmer because I lived in California. California often is the hottest spot (Death Valley) and coldest spot (Truckee) in the USA. Generalizations are often more wrong than right.

What's wrong with a million dollar home?? As I said earlier, it's only money .
