Big time problems!
The leaves are turning yellow at the edges and then brown until the whole leaf is brown and then the leaf collapses! It is gradual yellowing at the tips and then brown and then the yellowing progresses to the upper part of the leaf. The leaves collapse and hang down. Very strange problem. Only the lower leaves are effected.

Re: Big time problems!
The lower leaves eventually yellow and die. It could be that natural process. Post a picture.

Re: Big time problems!
Is this yellow sigatoka? The pictures below are leaves from a Namwa banana and 10 feet to the right there is another Namwa with no symptoms.

Re: Big time problems!
just a little shredded by the wind..yellowing on lower leaves looks fine and normal..you only really need to worry if it startes to happen to any of the newer leaves,or the ones on top..try a good ring of compost around the outside, just leave a foot clearance..

Re: Big time problems!
The banana plant in the pictures has 14 leaves and the P stem is about 82 inches tall. The leaves above the two yellowing leaves are green and healthy.
The first week of March came in with a bang! The temperature here has been about 10 F below normal for the first 9 days! In fact, the temperature overnight even dropped to the low 40sF some nights. Fortunately the temperature remained above freezing. This has slowed down the bananas, however more normal weather is likely for the next week. |
