I would wait until the leaves turn brown. The leaves can still feed the plant broken.

First rule of bananas: never, ever, ever remove anything that is green.

Ut oh... I break that rule all the time. Is that like a life or death rule?

When I'm pruning I take off anything going over a neighbor's fence, green or not. I'll also take off green if it's growing into or shading something I do not want shaded.

Leaves are like solar panels. Less leaves means less energy which means fewer and/or small fruit.

Whew, then maybe I'm OK. Ordinarily by the time my plants flower and eventually give me fruit there are LOTS of leaves everywhere!
