Re: Can i remove pups while mom plant fruiting?
I was always under the influence its proper technique separating from a momma fruiter because this help finish off the growth by stressing the plant and putting it into survival. All the leaves will probably start to look worse quicker but the fruit should produce more hormone to "finish off". IMO

Re: Can i remove pups while mom plant fruiting?
I know that it stresses some varieties to do so, like the Cavendish varieties. I would wait until fruiting is done unless the pups you're removing are small.

Re: Can i remove pups while mom plant fruiting?
I do it all the time to all kinds of varieties, but haven't grown plantains. I'd guess the fewer you remove, the less potential damage, and smaller is probably better, especially if you're not trying to grow out the ones you remove.

Re: Can i remove pups while mom plant fruiting?
Removing pups just before flowering begins seems to be very detrimental in some varieties. Once the fruit has formed is seems to be less of an issue. Removing one pup is not so bad. If you remove several, the affect is greater.
Some varieties need a few pups to maintain the flowering plant, to provide nutrition and anchor it. Some varieties seem to lose root mass at flowering more than others. Ice Cream being an example.
