Can you speed up fruit ripening on the P-stem?

Is there a way to decrease the time required to ripen a fruit stalk?

If you were to stress the plant or remove the lower bananas would the help?

Does removing the bloom help?

I don't think stressing it would help,might even slow it down or cause the fruit to not mature

Keep it fed and hope for the best. This happens almost every year to me. I pull right before 1st freeze and let them ripen inside and hope for the best.

Removing the bloom after the stalk starts getting blank spaces will help the fruit, that is what I was told many moons ago. With out the bloom more of the plants energy will go into the fruiting. Good luck.

Keep the plant growing as fast as possible and you can prune the bunch. If perhaps you have an 8 hand bunch you could cut off the bottom 3 hands and it would mature a little faster. You aren't going to shave a month of of fruit fill or anything but maybe 10 days.

Sorry, I don't intend to hijack your thread, but my E. glauca will obviously not have its (inedible) bananas ready until I dig it up and bring it bare root to the basement. Should I leave the stalk on or remove it afterward? Thanks.

If i'm reading your comment right and your plant already flowered, don't they die after they flower? If so, since it's the end of the season what would your plans be for it or any plant that flowers at the end of the season? Would one pot it or cut it up,(corm) keep it warm and hope it pups in the spring or whenever? Just wondering how that works with winter coming in colder climates.

That is exactly what I was wondering. 10 days could mean a lot here.

No problem for me. Since it will die I would think you should cut it off but there are more knowledgeable people out there that will hopefully chime in.

Yes they do but the corm will produce or should have produced more pups. What you have to do depends on where you live.

Remember this is an Ensete, so no pups. I just want to have the fruit develop as much as possible before the plant dies.

OPPS I missed that.

If the fruit do not mature enough can you cut the trunk down to the base and then crosshatch cut it like some of the others to get propogation or do you have to do this before it flowers?
