Central, FL
I am looking for a suggest on a new Varity to try out. I am going to be removing one or both of my manzano, and Raji Puri. Anyone from Central Florida have a good suggestion on what is doing good in our area?

Re: Central, FL
Oh I forgot to tell you. If you buy any banana plant labelled "ice cream" or "blue java" in our area you will probably be getting a namwah.

Re: Central, FL
Some I really like and find cold tolerant are Palayamkodan,Njalipoovan,Chundilakannan,Pisang Ceylon,Brazilian and Kandrian. I have not tasted any of those but they do better than the 'Misi Luki' Namwah for me and handle the short duration frost I get in Pyrgos, especially well(loosing the leafs of course but coming back fast and strong!). Surprisingly,Red Iholene, even though looking worse once very cold nights set in,was one of the first to leaf out fine, along with Njalipoovan and Chundilakannan, even though its in more shade than the rest. Everything else was slower.

Re: Central, FL
Out of all the bananas I have Dwarf Namwah and Njalipoovan handled the cool weather the best. Despite the fact it doesn't freeze here, it does get cool. Plantains and cold don't get along well.
