Datil
120613 Datil in recovery a month after Mostly Banana's Rollin' South for the Winter..
091113 The pup is almost as big as the mother.. Pup was given to Jose @ the Gulf Coast Banana Meet of 2013 a month after this picture was taken. 070913 070113 060413 I fed it some Azomite and it had 2 small pups, one never amounted to much. 040813 Was a pretty weak corm as it got acclimated of course S. Ark spring didn't help much.. This one I received in a trade w/ Capitum.. |

Re: Datil
I thought only Ice Creams were potential fakes. There are more? I'm pretty sure I have a Dwarf Cavendish because they seem to be the least desirable but maybe not? I'm *this close* to raising figs again. I never claimed to know what the heck varieties I had. Even if I bought a "known one", I never handed a twig or figlet off to anyone without the warning that "I purchased this from a reputable nursery however there's a tremendous amount of confusion surrounding these ladies. I've been told the fruit is quite nice (if I didn't have any for them to taste) but I cannot guarantee it's a Brown Turkey or Mission or a LSU or *fill in the blank*."
Sheesh! I just want to grow delicious bananas suitable for my zone....

Re: Datil
Then it's probably a Not Datil, the stem of the AA Datil should resemble your other AA bananas.

Re: Datil
The original came from the PR USDA Agricultural research station, so I took their word for it. It is always possible that they made a mistake, but I don't have the expertise to contradict them ;-)

Re: Datil
It's a little hard to tell from the pictures, but it looks like the real Datil to me, and not like the Rajapuri version that has made it's way into our community. This one is glossy green with spread, winged petioles from what I can tell, which is what this AA variety should look like.

Re: Datil
Damn, I'm going to have to break out the Banana Book.. lol I think I'll drink a Beer instead.. Where ever Capitum got it is good enough for me.. When Winter's over and I get my baby's out I might take the time to actually look @ them hard until then they can just stay green they doing good. :^)
