Deer, Coons, & Bananas ?
Just wondering, do deer or coons eat bananas, or bother banana plants?
If so I'm in DEEP DO DO!

It's not going to take long to fill your freezer!
Most states allow you defend your crops with lethal force (say 3100 fps) BUT unfortunately you have to donate the suspects to recognized charitable organizations. Doesn't seem fair does it?

What happens in your backyard, stays in your backyard.
That is what I have been told by some park rangers near my house..... |

Re: Deer, Coons, & Bananas ?
I have the pleasure to let you konw that I have NO PROBLEM with coons and deers.
Those are very friendly animals (maybe because we don't have them here ) My only problems are with goats and wild boars..... Other places other pests.... Phil

Re: Deer, Coons, & Bananas ?
Hi Ante,
I see your are very much interested in these boars : When these wild cousins of domestic pigs come into your garden it may result two things : - number one : they plow your garden very well looking for worms and ants larvaes. This might be good if, in the same time, they would not destroy stone walls one meter high (they come in family : father, mother and four or five small ones) - number two : they dig out your plants, palms, bananas and satellize them with their nose. That is the reason why I put very strong wire mesh around my young plants. The more hunters hunt them the more their number is increasing. I have to say that my garden is closed with wire mesh but ......they just dig a passage down it and come every night in the garden. Hopefully, bananas don't flower at soil level, (except, of course, strawberry bananas). Five or six feet up there are less wild boars. There I have only to prevent bats damages..... Phil NB : the only musa which is fully boarproof is California gold (maybe because of gold). Don't you have a pup to trade ?....

Re: Deer, Coons, & Bananas ?
I am in central florida, outside of Tampa. In my area we have "herds" of deer. It is not uncommon to see 20 or so deer in a yard. I routinely have about 6 deer that come to my house for breakfast, lunch and dinner! It is mostly females and their babies. So far, I have not had any damage to my bananas.
