We should start a thread for good/bad ebay sellers here!!! At least let everyone here know how their experience was with an e-bay seller.

GREAT, I just purchased two bromeliads and an air plant from that member (waiting still over a week to be shipped to me). She doesn't even respond to my e-mails when I ask when/how they were shipped and was tracking added! Hope I get them! At least I paid UNDER $20 for three plants!!!

Maybe we should have a thread for experiences with ebay sellers, for plants. Just a thread where one can post what member it was and what was good or bad about them. Might make some people mad though.

LOL Who cares if it makes them mad if it saves others from having major problems and/or losing their money! Heck, I'm getting threats right now from the person who I originally posted about saying that she's going to get on here and turn you all against me LOL I'm told her "GO AHEAD." I know the moderators here will not tollerate harrasement or foul language in here, but it is freedom of speach! All we're doing is sharing our experiances we've had with basically "businesses" through e-bay, other members can take it to heart, or with a grain of salt.

At the moment (other than what's in this post) I've decided to wait to post anything more about my original post until it's all settled. I did reffer her to this thread to show her what others opinions (as well as more of mine) were of the plants she sent me. Maybe that was a bad move, but I wanted her to see the pictures of what I received and the opinions on her "care instructions," the auction said ready to plant in the ground in a sunny location zone 9 or below. She also stated that her seedlings were always in the sun, wondering your opinion on that one Gabe after your previous comment. I'll be honest, I've never dealt with a banana seedling (yes to many pups though), and in a case of e-bay, the seller should give instructions as though it were to a 5 y/o receiving the plant (as most likely they would of never dealt with a banana seedling either LOL). She didn't even EVER list that it was cultivated from seed until MUCH later in e-mails (yesterday actually). Seems that is an important fact in care early on from what all I've been reading from you guys. But regardless of what happened AFTER I received it, she wont honor up to the fact it was almost dead upon arrival, regardless of what I did after. At the moment it's gotten REALLY nasty and I'm getting her whole drama life story of how she's too pour to have a computer or phone (half the reason I'm having so many problems with this person) and she's blaming everything but the fact that the picture I originally posted was ONE day after I received the plants. Who cares what I did after, that's not the issue, and the plants didn't just DIE over night and she's refusing to accept that fact. I almost actually gave in, until she threw an insult at me after I tried to settle with her and pay for the shipping of an exchange. Sheesh, well you all will get the full story here in a few weeks. In the meantime, if you see someone on e-bay with a LOT of copyrighted photos listed rather than their self taken pictures (this one was dumb enough to actually leave the copyright and who it belonged to AND the year in most of their pics), DON'T BID!!!! But if they mostly have self taken pictures then you could probably bid with more ease.

I also had a bad experience with one known as Angel Trumpet. Sold me bad banana plants and then could not reach him. (E-Bay) in spite of numerous emails. I am still disenchanted
with E-Bay when it comes to bananas as well as Ty-ty.

I left a negitive response on the ebayer mentioned previously, and he returned my emails as soon as I left the negitive, and said there was a death in his family. Not sure if it's just an excuse or not, but I'm thankful he's sending my plant.

Just wanted to add someone else to the list! I contacted mgmg9495 about a banana tree she's selling (she has several varieties) and asked her if she could send a picture of the actual plant to ship and told her why, just not wanting to be screwed over and want to see EXACTLY what's going to show in the mail so that there's no surprises. Instead of being nice about it, got a nasty e-mail back and got blocked from bidding. Carmenso, I'm starting to agree with you, seems e-bay really isn't the way to go at all!

Nothing beats selecting your plant in person (ie going to your local nursery, neighbor, friend etc). I've had good luck this year with two e-bay sellers shipping plants to Seattle in the middle of winter! Both of whom were recommended on this board. Neither of them showed me the actual plants to be shipped, so I had to trust the opinions of the experts here. If you choose a plant from an on-line nursery, they won't show you the actual plant either. I think if you use ebay, the best thing to do is to research who you are dealing with. This thread is a great start. I've found over the years with all sellers on ebay, it is best not to offend them. Its so easy to say things on-line which you wouldn't say in person. We've all done it. Its the anominity of it all. And I apologize if I have offended anyone with that comment.

But better yet, check out the auctions here !! You will see the actual plant you are bidding on. And have some knowledge of how he/she cares for their plants.

PS, I don't sell plants here. Just have great respect for our experts.

Yeah, good luck finding a nursery in Seattle. Though, occasionally, Lowe's may have a few SDCs, with labels. These are TC's from Burnaby Lake, BC. Oftentimes, though, they aren't labeled at all. I saw a fruiting plant at Molbak's Greenhouse in Woodenville for $175. It was a Dwarf Cavendish, and had at least 5 pups.

No kidding! I got my one and only negative feedback from a Seller that I had given a Neutral Feedback to because he/she never responded to my emails and took their easy time to send the item over. I never posted another feedback since because eBay wouldn't do anything about it.

Chong, I think I could have worded this post better. Something along the line of 'Although nothing beats choosing your plant in person ... but if you choose to use ebay ...' etc. I have the same trouble finding exotic plants in the Seattle area and have had several shipped here because I couldn't find them locally.

And then the remark about offending sellers, I was thinking of earlier times that I asked questions prior to bidding which were not exactly tactful. I didn't want to be taken advantage of, but in retrospect I wouldn't have enjoyed getting that same e-mail if I were a seller. The results were predictably bad. I've also had a few experiences with just plain dishonest. nasty or flakey sellers. That's why I was so delighted to find recommendations here. Its a great resource.

Hey you guys, sorry to hear about your bad experiences, and to you who started this thread...those are some sad looking bananas, best of luck! I ordered for somebody named wellsprings100 (?I think that's right), I have ordered a ton of banana plants from him, dwarf cavendish, the first 4 orders added up to 40 bananas, he waited until good weather to send, had to be above thirties in the day and no lower than mid twenties at night, he does not offer a heat pack, but his packages get here in less than two days, that's from mid florida to western nebraska. The first box of 40 came in wonderful condition, except a torn leaf on each banana, because of a dowel in the middle of each pot to keep the box from coming down on the banana. But I was pleased, and so were all the people that went in on the order with me. Now I have two more small orders, and I expect nothing short of fantastic, he's a great seller, and if you message him, he'll get back to you usually within the day. If you're gonna buy bananas on ebay, choose this seller. Oh, and they are all little guys, about 4 inches tall when leaves laid flat (not including a new leaf in the middle I mean)...and he's got lots of different kinds. I chose this seller after a lot of other people, I had messaged to ask question about the item. I figure if the seller doesn't answer your first question, they're not worth it!

Hi Mcollum,
My latest plants were from Wellspring100, my Ruby Red Banana and Tacca. Thank you for telling us about his temperature requirements. That explains why he shipped with weather I considered too cold. Apparently he knows the limits of his packaging and postal practices. Mine took 4 days to get here to Seattle, one day delay by the post office. But they arrived healthy and perky. I too had one torn leaf. I thought I did it unpacking the plants. Glad to know it wasn't me.

I've bought dozens of plants from wellsprings listings in the past and have never been disappointed. If I buy on ebay I look for someone with high # of sales and good feedback.
The only bad experience I've ever had was the seller took over a month to ship and never contacted me or responded to mails. When the plant arrived it was a very beautiful Cavendish and a letter with an apology.

I sell plants on e-bay, and let me tell you, you get lots of bad buyers too. I've dealt with it myself, people who don't pay, who ask 25 questions about an item and never even bid on the item after all those questions. People who ask you if you'd list a "buy it now" auction so they can buy 8 of something and then never buy even one. I had one lady complain that she killed her begonia three months after the auction, she had never left feedback on the item. I shipped her a replacement--at my cost, and then she still left me negative feedback "first one died, replacement seems a little better". After I did all that! And the plants were fine to start with.
But that's what happens when you deal with people, especially ones you don't really know. Some you get along with, and some you don't, I guess.

Hey Sandy, Yeah I can understand your view point, but probably not as well as you. I use to sell a LOT on e-bay (McD's toys and some good yardsale/thrift store finds). I actually never got any of those kinds of problems except for once, my fault. I accidently sent someone two #1 toys out of a set rather than one #1 and one #2. THEN when I went to replace the #2, I accidently sent ANOTHER #1. The third time I FINALLY got it correct. I sent one of each (this was a set of 8 Madam Alexander Dolls). Was so glad to have not gotten my butt chewed off. I did get a phone call though, but they were nice about it. They did ultimately leave me very nice feedback.

Hey guys, good news. After all the steam settled between the seller and I, we came to an agreement, I wanted live plants. I finally decided (without talking to her) to send the seller some more money to cover shipping charges and from further speaking to her, I knew she'd be an honest person. She sent me two new plants and they are doing healthy and great after two weeks. I'll take pictures later to post here of the new plants (along side the old ones). She has turned out to be an ok seller afterall.

Hey Jason, I ended up FINALLY getting my plants from mantisbee via PRIORITY THREE WEEKS LATER!!!! They did show up in great condition though and maturing plants. Don't like how long they took to get shipped. Took ten unanswered phone calls (and one answered promising shipping over a week and a half ago) and an paypal dispute to FINALLY get them! I'm just glad to get my plants! I'll post pictures later!

Here is a picture of the new banana plants I was sent! One week and they're doing great! Behind the two in the front is the ones I received originally, they've died off completely.
