I've been working my way through your old posts and can't believe how many banana varieties and species some of you have. What are your favorites?
So far, I'm just interested in the dessert types, but some of the ornamentals look interesting. So do the ones whose names I've never hear before?

At this point none of mine have fruited yet so I can only go by the plant itself and that would be my unknown dwarf Lady Finger and the Pisang Klotec. They both have shown good growth during the winter months with no damage to the leaves and are both very nice looking plants, although the Pisang klotec wins in the color category. My Jamaican Reds are awesome looking when the weather is nicer, and my Ae Ae is pretty to look at too. I'm sure this will all change once I have tasted the fruits.

Since I didn't recognize 'Pisang klotec' I googled it. Your gallery was the only site that came up. The color of the leaf is really something! With that color, it could almost be a petal. The name sounds Indonesian. Where did you get it?

I just noticed i have been miss spelling the name not that it matters. It's Pisang Klotek. I bought it from a local tropical nursery guy who travels the world looking for odd things to bring back and propagate. It's from Indonesia and according to the seller the name loosely translated means Banana of the Kings. Legend has it that if you were caught eating the fruit you would be put to death as it was only for the King to eat. I have tried Googling it myself with the same results. I even went back and talked with him again after not finding any info on it and he stands by his statement and says it is extremely rare and that the name is correct. Who knows, they keep finding new stuff all the time so maybe this is one of those new finds? It looks a lot like my Ele Ele but has much more color. There is a Indonesian book that has a picture of a bunch of what looks like seeded bananas and a beer that is found on Google as Pisang Klutuk. That is the only image but there is quite a bit of info for that search! Check it out!

'Pisang Klutuk' is a name for Musa balbisiana which is a completly different plant. Keep in mind that with over 1,200 different types of bananas there are many no one here has heard of before.

I just thought I'd update this post in case someone finds it in a Google search. Gabe was right, this plant is nothing like Pisang Klutuk. The fruit from Pisang Klotek is seedless and delicious!

Iam coming up on my year growing bananas and so far I love (ornamental)
ensete maurelli.
And bananas....Its Ice cream, Orinoco, Dwarf Cavendish, and lil' prince.
Ask me again at the end of the season, cuz the others are surprising me more , and more,
and MORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
