![]() What is the best fertilizer for banana plants? I'd like to know if it's possible to purchase at a nearby store or nursery as opposed to online ordering.

![]() Check your area for farm suppliers or fertilizer suppliers. These usually sell to the public (gardeners) in bag guaranty and should have the best price. Then you might check the nurseries and garden centers (higher cost); And, Walmart (cost not bad). These usually have a 'balanced' fertilizer of some type (5-5-5; 8-8-8; 10-10-10; 15-15-15 or 16-16-16). 10-10-10 is the most common while the others are not always available except by special order.
10-10-10 plus a few lbs of potassium supplement is what I use at 10lb/plant plus 1/2 to 3/4 lb of potassium sulfate. ... !5-15-15 at 10lb per plant will provide all the potassium the plant needs and extra 1/2 lb of N. This comes down to cost and availability. ... These general balanced fertilizers can be formulated as a general use or Tomato/garden mix with extra calcium, magnesium, and other nutrients. The tomato mix will have much of the same nutrients needed by banana plants and a better choice over the general mix. |

![]() Go to Simplot and ask for "True 315" bring a bucket with a lid. Good stuff
If you don't have a Simplot, print the label and bring it to a agricultural Supply. Go to the source and skip all the middlemen

![]() I get mine at Menards, Schultz® Fast Acting Water Soluble All Purpose Plant Food - 5 lbs 20-20-20. They have 1.5 lb also but 5 lbs is a better deal. Search for 20-20-20, their are other places that probably have it also.

![]() I use black cow/compost as a top dressing. MOP 0-0-62 Granular and Urea 46-0-0 granular every two weeks. There is a ratio sheet on Bananapups.com. I’ve used the 10-10-10 and 15-5-30 in the past when I first started out and it hasn’t personally worked as well. It all just depends on how much you apply and what each plant can take along with your soil and climate. My ratio might not work as well in your zone, but I like seeing my leaves twist just a barely each time they push out. I know I use less on my Iholena’s lol versus something like a Namwa that you can dump tons of fertilizer on.

![]() I'll put my two cents in:
I mix up my own and it comes out to approximately 11-4-37. Here is my recipe: Urea (46-0-0) 1 cup Triple Super Phosphate (0-46-0) 1/3 cup Muriate of Potash (0-0-62) 2.5 cups Essential Minor Elements 1/4 cup I use 1 pound (two cups) per plant per month during the growing season. This equals approximately a pound of nitrogen per plant per year. For bananas that get a bit fussy if you give them too much nitrogen at once (like my Raja Puri), I use one cup every two weeks. I buy the urea and muriate of potash in 50 pound bags from a local lawn supply store. The triple super phosphate and the minor elements are available on Amazon. All of my bananas seem to like this mixture just fine.

![]() I use a similar fertilizer method as Art and Zallin which has me juggling three bags of fertilizer (Urea, MOP/SOP, Southern AG Minor Elements) for the season however there were a couple years that I was able to scoop up PalmGain 8-2-12 Plus Minors from a local fertilizer supply store at a super deal. Its a one stop fertilizer that coverred my NPK and minor nutrients out of one bag. I had great results with that stuff in my patch.
