Finally I planted my bananas!
As I writed some weeks ago, I finally found some hard to find var. of banana plants for the Italian Market:
Belle, Dwarf Brasilian, Misi Luki, Dwarf Double Mahoi, Mona Lisa and Zan Moreno. As some of you kindly adviced me, I waited patiently some time for planting them...but now it was surely the right time!... :-) Their pics... DWARF DOUBLE MAHOI MONA LISA DWARF BRASILIAN BELLE MISI LUKI ZAN MORENO (will remain some other days in the pot....too much little!...) |

Re: Finally I planted my bananas!
Very nice collection!
Like I was telling Jo in another thread - soon you'll go from watching a new leaf per day in your collection to a new pup per day in your collection! I'm yet to reach the new bunch per day status but I'm hard at work to get there!

Re: Finally I planted my bananas!
The above shown var. "Belle" and "Misi Luki", have more yellowing leaves than the others. Do you think it is normal, or it depends from a nutritional deficiency, or maybe becouse they had more hot temperatures (they are in a south facing location...)?

Re: Finally I planted my bananas!
Give them more water and maybe some weak food!

Re: Finally I planted my bananas!
Here my ending season banana report for you:
Dwarf Brasilian: It was the most surprising one: comparing with the others, it was growing double in velocity, vitality and robustness. Same for its babies: 3 beautifully 35 ÷ 45 cm tall plants, with nice pink reflex on the bottom face of their leaf and some violet stripes on the top faces. Dw. Brasilian zoom on the little babies Misi Luki: Not too much bad and nor too much good impression until now! But I have big expectations on its fruits!... It has not (togheter to FHIA-02 Mona Lisa one) the generousity of gifting me a borning of a little banana plant. Maybe it was too much exopsed to our hot and dry mediterranean climate. Also if I helped it with regular watering, Misi Luki and Belle one becomed yellowing. Anyway it seems were of little help some applications of iron and other mineral traces. Belle: Almost same considerations of Misi Luki, but at least has ended with a little nice baby of 6 cm!! FHIA-02 Mona Lisa: Non special results: strangely remained more little than the dwarf ones (Brazilian, Double Mahoi and 'Zan Moreno'), and not borning of little plants. Mona Lisa very little progress Dwarf Double Mahoi: It was another nice surprice: maybe becouse I know it is very rare and particular, I was convinced it should have bad growth. Instead it was growing very healthy and with good vitality. Wonderful the foliage and the almost dark pseudostem rendering! And, the more, 3 little plants 6 ÷ 30 cm tall is satisfatory no? Dwarf Zan Moreno: A truly banana for potting: little, nice foliage with some violet stripes on the top faces. And a welcome to its almost 5 cm tall. A view with (in progress) "Comune di Sicilia", Dw. Double Mahoi and Dw. Brasilian. Now it is two weeks of uncommon november cold weather her in Sicily (Italy), and I covered the ground with some mulch and dry leaf. Do you think I need to protect more them, at least the baby of few cm tall? Last edited by Francesco : 11-15-2007 at 06:17 AM. |

Re: Finally I planted my bananas!
Hey Francesco,
wonderful plants you have there! I live in Germany and it is not possible for me to plant my dessert Musas into the garden. I have to take Musa basjoo and Musa sikkimensis to plant them outside. I think you don't have to protect your plants till it is freezing. Greetings Oliver |
