Fire hazard
Hi all,
I just bought some Christmas lights. If I decide to use them on my plants, is it ok to cover them with a bed sheet, or would this be a fire hazard? PJ |

Re: Fire hazard
Well, I would think it to be a fire hazard since one must consider a broken bulb or a short caused by water. If you are determined to use a sheet, I would soak it in a baking soda solution first. Then allow it to dry before wrapping loosely around your banana plant. Consider something to keep the lights from direct contact with the sheet. Like a tomato plant cage or some light, metal fencing material such as chicken wire.
You would be better off using something fire retardant however. |

Re: Fire hazard
A bed sheet should supply the protection you need. Lights will introduce tons of complications that will make it undesirable. Might as well bring out the wind machines.

Re: Fire hazard
Geesh....Don't even consider covering your Xmas lights with a sheet. As already said, make a wire/or bamboo cage,....then.... cover the framework with a Frost Blanket, It helps if the frost blanket material is not actually touching the plant....but a triple layer should give you a LOT of protection, without "poaching" your Nanner. If you live in a non-arctic clime, and the plants are not huge,...cover it with some of this "spun stuff". Remember...cold "comes from above". Protect the tips. Territorial Seeds, in OR, is where I have always bought mine, but there many suppliers. Dat said,...I don't use the stuff on Nanners...just non-hardy Cacti & succulents.
