Default Flag Leaf?
Hey Folks

Is this a flag leaf? Or is it my 69 year old eyes deceiving me with hopes for two nanana's flowering in the same season possibilities:}

It's much shorter than the other leaves and is from the Lizard Creek No name species lol

It was the first banana I ever planted; it was given to me by a hippie that worked at a local nursery that had obtained it from an elderly couple in Baton Roach, La. that no longer wanted bananas near their house...plantain is what he told me it was but you know those Hippies sometimes well U know lol

So....if I could get some help to determine if oldtimers has set in or what; and what variety you think this plant may be I'd appreciate it.

excuse me but what is a pre. we have 3 plants that shot a flag leaf and then a bloom. Praying hands, orinoco and now a manzano. we are new with some terms so please bear with us. thanks and good growing.

It's a half sized leaf that shows up before the flag leaf. Not all plants show a pre flag though.

I thought the half leaf was the flag leaf. As the little on attached to the bud is usually so small and falls right off after the bloom starts to open.

That's interesting. On mine, I find the flag leaf remains attached even until I harvest. Usually by the time I see the flag, the base of it is so much wider that it is clear the inflorescence is coming too.

I've had some flags stay on almost until the bunch is ripe, and then some turn brown and fall off pretty quickly or just sit there stuck to the bunch.

Mike the pre flag is bigger. The flag is a little guy, just slightly bigger than the flower bud.
