Re: Flag Leaf
Cathy,
We were right, weren't we?!?!?! Congrats, and will be out as soon as I can to see it in person... Wish we could figure out how to get them close to harvesting, but gonna be a lot of praying for your Praying Hands!!! Hopefully, Mother Nature will cut you some slack and hold off winter for a LLLLOOOONNNNGGGG time!!! If not, hey, you can be proud that you were able to get it this far!!! Way to go!!! |

Re: Flag Leaf
Thanks all, I don't know what i'm going to do this winter. Maybe try to dig it up. It won't fit in my greenhouse anymore, but my uncle has a very large garage for his farm equipment, and he said i could overwinter it there.

Re: Flag Leaf
Congrats!
I don't know much about the technical and artistic aspects of photographic composition, but that is probably the best photo example of what a flag leaf looks like. Might have to see how to get that in the wiki or something. I think you have a few months until frost don't you? You might make it to harvest. We'll cross our fingers for you.

Re: Flag Leaf
It's about 7 or 8 ft. tall. I planted it as a small pup last year. It grew like gangbusters last summer. I dug it up and potted it. I kept it in my greenhouse all winter, then planted it out again this spring. What i'd like to know now is, will it hurt the fruit production, if i take off a pup?

Re: Flag Leaf
It could hurt the fruit production if you don't remove the pup. Let the corm under the "mother" plant devote its energy entirely to the one stalk.

Re: Flag Leaf
Have you considered growing it leaning over in your greenhouse? If it is only 7-8 ft tall, and if you have the space in your greenhouse, it does not have to be vertical. One that I have outdoors is leaning almost 45 degrees--it bloomed in July.
