Free Bananas in Florida
It's been a while since this was posted, and I don't know if there are many Dave's Garden members here, but I thought I would let you guys in Florida know about this if you didn't know already: Tropical Fruits: Free Bananas!

Re: Free Bananas in Florida
We'll be passing through Citra in November on the way to Dunellon. We may stop and grab a plant for the inlaws and some of that great Citra citrus.

Re: Free Bananas in Florida
I am armed with a long and sharp shovel.
There are probably about 12 pups I can cut away today. I really hate to throw them away. Maybe I can sneak a few around our fire stations hehehe RMP-Do you have any Dwarf Brazilian available? I can accomidate 2 around 7 feet (4runner) or a few smaller ones.

Re: Free Bananas in Florida
Scott, which kind of pups do you have? If you feel like sending them to me in a box, I'll pay for shipping plus extra for your trouble...

Re: Free Bananas in Florida
They are of the Tallest of Brazilian
The leaves have stretched themselves to the 22' range. Though the fruit that comes from the tree is about 10-12' up. Let me know if you would like for me to send 1 to you. I have a sword pup that's between a fruiting and replacement tree. Think it's about 3.5' right now. I can get a poster box and launch it your way. The plants all have a bunch of pups right now I'm learning real patience with the fruit. Long enough to wait for the flag leaf...now 4 to 5 months to ripen the fruit hehehe They look great..love the green in the yard. Let me know Clare from CA When will my Manzanoz yellow? & Thanks Mediahound

Re: Free Bananas in Florida
That would be awesome, Scott. I would love a pup if it's not too much trouble. I can send you the shipping and handling by PayPal if you have a PayPal account or send you a check if you prefer. I'll give my my address. By the way, I have the greatest respect for what you do;-)

Re: Free Bananas in Florida
That's so cool that you were here! I'm good friends with a firefighter here in Ventura County. He's totally into plumerias like I am and gets teased sometimes by the guys at the station. There's another firefighter that lives down the street from me that collects fire engines. He has 20 or so in his backyard.
It's fire season here so I am actually glad that you're not here because that gives me one less person to worry about. Besides, you probably have nicer weather there where you are and more humidity too. If you are ever back this way again, come see me. Also, send me your address so I can get some postage money to you. Thanks again for your generosity. There is no hurry so Code 1 response;-) Last edited by Clare_CA : 01-11-2010 at 10:38 AM. Re: Free Bananas in Florida
Hi Scott,
The holes are already dug, my friend! LOL! They're just waiting for bananas to fill them. Thanks so much for the package. I hope you included your return address so that I can send you postage and such. Or...I can send you a plumeria or two? Let me know if you would like some different colors in exchange for what you just sent me or if you would prefer postage instead. I have some extras that I normally sell that I could send you if you want. I have a couple of cuttings too. Let me know, and I'll put them in the mail to you. That's a nice yellow there in the background. A man drinking a martini with two olives? LOL! You don't see that very often. LOL! The yellow looks like it could be 'Aztec Gold,' which is found often in Florida. It smells like peaches. The white with a yellow center sounds like 'Celadine,' which has a very strong sweet fragrance. I have about 150 different cultivars right now and about 50 or so seedlings. Thanks again for the package and let me know about the plumerias. I have a nice dark pink and a light pink that is already rooted that I could send you. Re: Free Bananas in Florida
Hey Clare and Scott...
It's like old home week reading this exchange. I have lots of ties to The greater LA area and Camarillo! I grew up in the San Fernando Valley and have live in FL for 15 years now. My sister and her family have lived there in Camarillo for more than 20 years! My nephew is on the Oxnard FD and is a Captain these days! I'll be "home" for Christmas, and stay with my sis... visit friends and family and such! Clare, we'll have to meet up when I get there! I've met up with other Banana people over the years! Margie |

Well, it's a small world after all:-) That's so neat! Margie, I would love to meet up with you and show you my place. Send me a p.m. when you know what dates you'll be here. I may be going to Tahoe for the holidays, but plans aren't confirmed yet.

djmb74, you should send her a dmail by clicking on her name and then clicking to send her a dmail as they call it at Dave's. You only have to be a member, not a subscriber, to use the dmail. I'm a subscriber over there. If you want, I can send her a dmail or make a post, asking her what she has left.
