The Fruits of Basjoo 2009
Hi all,
The following picture shows the bunches of Basjoo fruits 2009 that were manually pollinated by one of my banana friend in Japan. As you can see from the pic, the fruits became somehow round shaped and increased the size of each fingers. All what we do now is just to sit down and wait for their ripeness. |

Re: The Fruits of Basjoo 2009
Hi Scot (Cironex),
They were manually pollinated by the male flowers of other plant of Basjoo. You see from the pic, there are at least 3 Basjoo pseudostems. |

Ah, ok, I see. I was wondering because of your observations about the fruit shape. Thank you.

Re: The Fruits of Basjoo 2009
Hi asacomm,
Thanks for the pix of the M basjoo with fruits. I have always been interested in trying to germinate the M basjoo from seeds and recently I had the privilege of getting some seeds from Mr Hideo Shimizu through my friend Ken Osada. I have them in the germination box now and I hope I will get at least 1 seedling to come up! So far, M basjoo is not known in Malaysia. |

Re: The Fruits of Basjoo 2009
Hi Asacomm! Thanks for a photo and the information. Yes, it is really appreciable by fruit that they have changed after pollination, became more roundish. It would be interesting to look process of pollination Basjoo. Your friend has such photos? Still such question, whether it is possible to make pollination of one plant Basjoo with a flower or it is necessary two plants? Thanks!

Re: The Fruits of Basjoo 2009
Thanks Gabe, I will hope that at flowering my one Musa basjoo will manage to be received at least a little or to steam of seeds at manual pollination.

Re: The Fruits of Basjoo 2009
I don't know where I got this from, but I didn't think you could grow Basjoo from seed, all the commercial plants are either TC or pups.
Could be wrong, infact probably am. |

Re: The Fruits of Basjoo 2009
You are right in that all of the commercial plants are either from TC or pups, but they still make seed. Seed is just a very inefficient way to propagate most wild banana species.

Re: The Fruits of Basjoo 2009
No-one seems to offer these seeds for sale. Why is that? Are they rare?

Re: The Fruits of Basjoo 2009
James, yes it is valid, these seeds very seldom come across on sale. At us in the country them not to find at all. Looked in many other foreign shops and too did not see.
