Default Is this a good price / good vendor?

What does any one know about this place?

Banana Trees Banana Plants

They have TC 12" - 24" (depending on variety) for $10.95. Is that a good price?

The phone number 321-259-9053 comes back to a Geneva and William Taylor with an address of 5245 Lk Washington Rd, Melbourne, FL 32934. A search of that address shows a neighborhood.

A web search of their names shows nothing but Tissue culture and Melborne FL returns the above listed web site.

Anything anybody?

I used this place when I first started collecting banana's last summer! They are a good source, the plants were healthy and packed well. Nothing too special, but you won't be disappointed either. You may be able to get better prices with Sandy at Northern Tropics, who is a member here.

I have purchased from them several times. Being on the other side of the country (California), my plants have come in great condition. On the forum you will get others who may not have had the same experience. I would recommend them. I think their prices are fair. Good luck!

I had a bad experience with them. I ordered 3 plants and after a month went by, I asked the order be canceled since my local nursery had some of the same nanas in stock. I received an email stating no problem, order will be canceled.

Another 3 weeks went by and I received the plants in the mail. Ok, normally I'd be ok with a goof like this because who can have enough banana plants? However, the plants were extremely tiny and barely had root systems. It took the entire growing season for them to reach 2 feet in height. This is with lots of soil amendments, fertilizer, water etc.

You get what you pay for. They're cheap. There's no denying the price.

It cost about $3 to get a tissue culture plant to marketable size (12"-24"). Base your decision on price using that number.

All of us have opinions and have had experiences. I have bought 20 plus plants from them and have been very happy. I even over watered two plants early on and they replaced them.

Yes tissue culture plants are $2.00. The difference between $2.00 and $15.00 is so minimal in life that if you base your decision on that I think it is silly. For me the bottom line is if I want a plant I will pay what I think is appropriate for it no matter the cost. That's my two cents!

YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR

I'd be happy with that. It's the other side where you don't get what you pay for that concerns me. I have special considerations right now in that I am looking to buy several varieties (7 - 10) of Bananas, numerous varieties (15 - 20) of Blueberries and numerous varieties (20 - 25) of Citrus. I am also buying blackberries, pomegranate, figs, muscadine (scuppernongs), persimmons, plums and pears. All of these will be used to fill the lot that I am still clearing off. The backhoe comes Nov 12 for stump removal. That and about 50 yards of dirt to fill and level off everything and I'll be ready to lay it out. I am trying to maximize the space and use all of it except for some play area for the kids. With all that in mind I need to find the best value for my dollar. I hope to get a volume discount from someone. It's hard to do though as the varieties I want may not be available from a single supplier even one that specializes in a particular fruit. I'm open to suggestions.

Give Northern Tropics a look. Sandy is a member of bananas.org and often has sales on banana plants for $4.99. Her plants are very healthy. I purchased several this past year.

Yes I definitely plan on checking hers. I guess that if she is up North I may need to hurry up or wait till spring to order. Of course spring here is still winter there. I'll check it out.

Is her plants TC?

First, good luck with your project. It sounds very exciting! Since you live in the Sunshine state I would think you could find some one that specializes in fruit trees (most of what you want fall into that category). I would go to a wholesale nursery and see if they will do business with you. Many times they will as you will be spending a fair amount of money. Maybe your backhoe person has some connections. I go to a wholesale nursery here in Santa Barbara. You do have Going Bananas in Florida. I have never purchased from them but I have heard good things. You also have Agri Starts in Florida and they do have many of what you are looking for though they are TC plants. I have purchased from them before. Lastly, you have some great members from this forum in your area that could be a resource.

Good luck!

Agristarts is a good source and they even have the blueberries you are looking for. You will need a tax i.d. number, but any business will do. Sometimes instead of tissue culture you're better off getting a larger corm from someone on the board here. You might have more pups in a few months than all the T.C. plants you can get for the same price plus the growth is more robust than with those little T.C. plants.

I was kinda hoping to stay away from TC unless I didn't have a choice. My best choice may be too do my layout and then throw it out here and see who has what. I'd prefer to keep the money here anyway.

There are plenty of sources here in Florida and a few great ones. I have contacted a few and I'm sure I will do business with some of them however the ones I've checked so far are not really into Bananas. I have not looked at Going Bananas but I will. I have seen other people speak good of them. I'm hoping not to have to buy the TC's. I have met several forum members around here that are really fantastic. I have got a good start from them. Hydroid and SBL have really been gracious to me and have started me off with some really nice plants.

i ordered three plants of him about a year ago, manzano, blue java and a siam ruby. they took two weeks longer then the website advertised and the plants where definitely small and still quite tender. the price is hard to beat.

Ive ordered all my bananas from going bananas after that. i just make the trip. its worth it for the plants you receive especially if youre like me and dont enjoy nursing seedlings or small t/c's

Worm Farmer and mango kush,

Thanks for your replies. I looked up Just Bananas and guess what I saw? BANANAS!!!!!! The satellite view shows Banana plants. That's what I want to see from a vendor that sells bananas.
