Gophers
Sigh! I just came in from mowing and discovered two small gopher holes in the yard. I try my best to use nothing by natural controls in the yard, but after having four of my bananas plowed down last year, I want to get this guy out of my yard ASAP!
Any ideas for natural deterents? If it/they get anywhere near my bananas, I will consider other alternatives... |

Re: Gophers
Sometimes those traps work if you put an onion or some thing stinky in it, but they are kinda hit or miss, and you have to kill em.
I just got a battery powered tube that you push into the ground and it emmits an irritating buzzing noise, that they dislike. It seems to be working so far. |

Re: Gophers
Can I ask where you got the battery powered thing? That sounds good to me. Irritate them away!
Thanks! |

Re: Gophers
I don't think you have a Southern States in CA. But here, they have aisles and aisles of animal repellants, including Gopher-Mole-Vole Irritators.

Plastic explosives work pretty well.

Re: Gophers
Those are both great ideas!
Maybe I need to watch "Caddyshack" again and get some additional ideas. LOL |

Re: Gophers
Macabee Old Reliable traps are the quintessential answer. Period. They work well, and you have positive proof of kill. THEN, you must dig up all of the tunnels, or another gopher will just move in. Been there, done that for 50 years.
The last secret is that the hole where you see the mound is a side tunnel, in most cases. You must dig over about 12-18' to where the tunnel runs in two directions (the main tunnel), and put a trap in each direction. The more traps you set, and the more tunnel yu dig up, the more likely the gopher is to make a mistake and get caught.
