Grand Nain revisited...
LOL!!!
This is a docu on the Grand Nain that survived Hurricane Abbey(the banana eating Bassett Hound!). It was not thriving(in my book) in it's former position over on the west side of the house, despite being in the ground & watered. Christel & I took upon ourselves to move it today. It had a good looking root system - It looks of decent size, but is barely larger than when I got it - Mixed up 1/4 MG potting mix, 1/4 citrus/palm mix, 1/4 homemade compost & 1/4 peat moss. Topped it off with a few handfuls of cedar mulch & Voila!!! Will be using this thread to journal progression, treatment & growth. Would appreciate any contributions, comments, etc. on the/your Grand Nain(s). ~Cheryl

Re: Grand Nain revisited...
My Big, Beautiful Grand Nain was stolen.
I moved it to the Front Yard to give it some extra shade...someone helped themselves... Very upset. ~Cheryl

Re: Grand Nain revisited...
Cheryl..... that is horrible. It is sickening especially because the people won't care for it or know what it even is!!! Maybe you'll be fortunate to have it thrown back in your yard by the criminal like The Hollyberry Lady got her Geranium back. It is evident how much you care for your plants and this is gross... sick people.
Like Mitchel said, someone send Cheryl a Gran Nain, please. Anyone who sees this in Canada with a Musa basjoo should send The Hollyberry Lady one, as well. This is becoming more and more of a problem.... stolen Banana plants- NOT even RARE ones, just common types. I am beginning to feel the need to stress putting all bananas in your backyard or in the ground if in public view. The only problem is, I have hundreds of potted plants, rare (ish) palms, bananas, and expensive cycads, which means I have little room to talk! Blame it on the climate that they have to be pot-bound, but they are all hidden in my backyard so that nobody can see them from the street at all. I have actually feared having any of my plants stolen, and luckily it hasn't happened. Be strong... pity the poor person who took the plant and hope that someone will generously send you a replacement. That's what we're here for, right guys? |

Re: Grand Nain revisited...
Dear Org Members,
Thank you all!! I appreciate the outpouring of kindness upon me regarding the theft of my GN. I have been blessed by many members here who have either gifted or sold plants and seeds at below cost to me & my family. I have many bananas (and other beautiful plants)due to these blessings! This is an amazing gathering of people here on the Org! The children are in disbelief that anyone would want to steal a banana plant, but we have driven around neighborhoods in the area & people with even bigger beautiful homes & private displays have wiring & fencing up to protect the plants from thieves. Is a shame. I appreciate your kind words and all of your many kind offers. ~Cheryl

Re: Grand Nain revisited...
Sorry about the bad luck, Cheryl. No offense, but you can probably find plants better suited to our area than 'Grand Nain' anyhow. I know that doesn't excuse the fact that someone stole something that belonged to you. I don't have any 'Grand Nain' but let me know if I can help.

Re: Grand Nain revisited...
Cheryl, I'm sorry I didn't see this till now...........I don't even know what to say....what is it with all the plants stolen lately with members here? I have plans on filling my front yard next year and WAS going to put the Ae Ae out there.......now I'm not sure..........If you have the patience to add a Rottweiler and Swiss mountain dog to the family and dedicate a year to train'em I can pretty much guarantee theives will think twice.....I wish I had something more constructive...or a repleacement to send you.

Re: Grand Nain revisited...
Cheryl,
I am sooo sorry that I didn't see this sooner!! I'm sorry to hear about your thieft problem.. What has this world gotten too when even folks private plants are not even safe!! I had a plant ripped out of our landscape a while back and the thief left only a small sprig in the hole.. I'm thinking they had been eyeing it for quite some time.. Heh! At least they left a cutting(so it can regrow I guess!) so they can steal it again later! It is just not right.. I wish I had some to send you but with the fire it leaves us scrambling to replace all of ours.. You are right though.. The folks here on the Org. are fantastic giving people and its great to see you have been able to replace your stolen plant.. It looks like a really nice one. |
