Gros Michel, FHIA-17, & FHIA-23
Hello,
I am interested in the Gros Michel family, but I am finding they are next to impossible to find. I have read in several places that the FHIA-17 and 23 are "Gros Michel" types and share the same parents. Are these "resistant" Gros Michels or a totally unrelated, but similar in characteristics, banana? According to Encanto Farms info on both FHIA hybrids, it says both are descended from "Highgate" which is the medium sized Gros Michel I believe, yet I've read on the forums here where some are saying they have no Gros Michel genetics whatsoever. Any input or advice would be really appreciated. Thanks!

@trebor that's cool! Did you all just private message him to order them? Also, would you happen to know if he still has any left??

A good source, but I think only if you can pick up yourself in Honolulu, is the University of Hawaii tissue culture lab. They have many varieties including Gros Michel.

Re: Gros Michel, FHIA-17, & FHIA-23
That's a good question, because I was told the TC came from Agristarts. Im not sure where they obtained the stock to work with . But I trust anything that comes from them . I have one PUP on my plant that gets full sun, that's kind of a big deal around here For me as long as I get fruit I'm happy .. Im gearing up to supply some more Organic matter to the soil around this plant. I might even take a trip the the horse farm for some nice horse poop!
