How tall are the plaNTS? If they are small. You can use a vanity light with multiple sockets and install CFLs in them.

I have found that HTG(High Tech Garden Supply) to be reasonable, if you can't find a small wattage unit close by. If your good at wiring, you can put together your little own set up cheap using their Ballast Kits. 175-1,000 MH and 250-1,000 for HPS.

Grow Lights, Advanced Nutrients, Hydroponic Supplies and more at Hydroempire

they have good prices.
I have a 600W HPS. it wasnt that expensive. you can maybe find a setup around 250 bucks or so. i think mine was around 240 bucks at hydroempire. i run it at 16hrs and my power bill only went up 40 bucks.

i dont have a wife to answer to.

If $250 for an HPS set-up is considered cheap, then I guess I should start selling them. The profit would be ... well, embarrassing!

thats just for lights. throw in the cost of a pH meter, PPM, hyroponic media and nutes, pots, etc...and we're talking some serious bucks!

If i knew how to grow hydroponically for cheaper i would and i am always on the lookout for the cheaper alternative. without sacrificing growth, naturally.

rock n roll

Retail markup on almost everything is at least 5-10 times the cost by the time its in the store.

This is where I go! I find their price are sometimes REALLY high on some things, where other stuff is a great deal. They have a retail store here in Melbourne, I love walking in and checking out what they have growing now. They had the Bonsai Wheel setup at one time. That thing is awesome!!!

thats kewl worm that you got that store close by.
i have to order all my stuff cause they dont have very much locally. sux!

i bought the cheapest light setup i could find. there is just no way to go much cheaper. the retail of these lights is indeed a little pricey. i am not complaining though cause my plants are growing very well.

It is rare to find "reasonable" prices for garden supplies online, and even rarer in a retail store. Start buying direct from a real agricultural supplier near you. Don't expect them to have online sales, and don't expect the clerical and order-takers to know much. Ask to speak to a sales person.

If you ordered it yourself it would be even cheaper. You can get a wholesale license (seller's permit) from your county government for free.

The Coliseum is nice too. You can build all systems yourself though, for pennies on the dollar.

Isn't there a minimum order amount? I think it is made in Germany.

What I need to find out is a new supplier of water soluble nutrients, so I can make my own blends again.

maybe not chris, cause it comes from distributors, so you may be able to buy it in single bag amounts. but, i dont know for sure. even then, if i were to order this on my own, the shipping would cost a grip of money. the nursery has to pay for that.

i am having the local nursery order me 4 50L bags for around 35 bucks a pop. i am throwing my plants into 20 gallon smart pots with a rockwool minicubes and hydroton mixture.
