Joy HaHa! Pisang Moon = Gros Michel!

Hey people remember the thread; Arm and Leg for Big Mike/Gros Michel Bananas? ?

Haha! My hunch was right after all! The Pisang Moon is the real deal Gros Michel! I finally got to taste it.

Last week I gave a call to my Orang Asli friend, Ulang and asked him if the fruits are ready for harvesting and he told me the time is just right. I met up with him today and got a couple of bunches from him. I did an on-the-spot tasting and it was right on the dot. I have tried this cultivar sometime ago from some fruits my sis bought which is call Heong Nga Chiew in Chinese. It means Fragrant Elephant Tusk 'Naner. I have also tried the Thai equivalent, the Kluay Hom Thong which means Fragrant Gold 'Naner. They taste the the same. Since they were ripen, I had to scoff off as many as I can. But 3 did the trick and I was filled! I gave the rest away to friends.

The pix of the unripe fruit on the plant which I posted sometime ago.

The bunch has 8 combs.

Each hand/comb average 12-14 fruits. Big!

My hand with fruit as comparison.

Nice Tog. I belive that name Gros Michel stands for Big Michel (germ. groß-big), it does have a sence.

Yup Ante. Aka Big Mike. No wonder people cannot forget the taste. It is very fragrant and it makes an absolutely great milk shake. So far all the 'naners I have tasted do not have its lingering fragrance.

Gros Michel = Big Mike. It's a doble-entendre name.

There you go rubbing something nice in our face again, Tog.

I can't believe you gave all of those away; don't you keep any bananas around the house for a snack? I guess it's different when you've got them growing all around you.

Cheers,

Harvey

The heat, the heat, Harv! My chap took it down just 4 days ago, green and rock hard. We are having a heat wave and heavy thunderstorms at the same time. So the heat managed to soften the whole bunch in those 4 days! He waited for me to come and take pix and as you can see some of them have fallen off. They were fed to the chickens.

The fruits were so filling I didn't want to waste them, so off to my friends. I kept a couple in the fridge though and they are holding well.
