Hawaii Trip
I am going to Hawaii next month for a vacation and want to check out nurseries. I will be in Maui for a week and the Big Ilsand for a week. Can anyone recommend nurseries in Maui and/or the Big Island?
Thank you, Andrew

Re: Hawaii Trip
I may have just missed them, but on the Big Island a lot of them are private. Only the large gardens like the HTBG on the Hamakua Coast is public AND sells plants (but they are mostly the small bagged type).
I have a friend in Puna who let me stop by her place to view her garden, but again, it's nothing commercial like you'd find in Florida. Can't say for sure on Maui. You may find a few gardens upcountry - I know there are several protea farms up there in Kula. But a lot of it is private to my knowledge. I guess they figure the bulk of visitors aren't interested in nurseries. I did find one on Kaua`i though - but most of the stuff was too big to ship home. I typically collect things I like (gingers, plumeria, pothos, bananas, monstera), have them USDA inspected since many of them come from the wild, and shipped home. I think I sent 40lbs home earlier this year, LOL.
