Guys, do you have any suggestions on how to kill Musa Basjoo plant and root? I have mine planted deep, about a foot, and in 3 of my locations the main plant seemed to have died. In 2 of the places I Decided to plant other shrubs and one was left alone as it grew pups.... well more then a month later all of the main stems decided that they are alive after all and started coming up (its almost July). When I planted the shrubs I dug up some of the bulbs and thought I got everything but seems I did not and they still started sprouting.... one came up right in the middle of my barberry shrub. Is there a way for me to spray the leaves with weed and grass killer to kill the bananas only or should I be trying to dig the whole thing up again?

Yes, herbicide will kill the banana plant. But if you dig the corm and pot, you can sell ($10 plus shipping) or give them away.

Yes I could do that, already gave out to neighbors in the past and they just don't seem to be banana people just cant deal with shipping and such, too many things to do around the house. if anyone in northern new jersey is interested please come get em. I have so many this year besides these unwanted ones I am not sure its even worth the trouble.

issue is I would never let anyone dig in my yard and these are right on top of shrubs, so most likely I will just spray with something. Otherwise have to carefully dig up shrubs, rip out the bananas and replant.

I would mix it strong and it may take multiple treatments if using something like roundup. I use roundup pro all around mine I have sprayed them several times. It doesn't take much to kill a pup but I've sprayed on the pstem several times and it wasn't effected other than nasty black spots where it hit.

It may be better to cut the pstems down and then spray or to inject into the pstem? I'm not sure. Drill a hole into them and spray maybe. Maybe someone with experience will drop in and tell you the best way. Good luck and let us know how it worked!

Roundup & other herbicides needs to be sprayed on the leaves to be absorbed into the plant. For mature plants this may take several weeks due to the large amount of water stored by the plant. When the leaves turn brown then cut down the pstem. The herbicide will be in the corm. ... I presume the big pstems have already been cut down and the problem now is the pups that keep coming back. Spray the pup leaves and repeat as/if new pups come up else where.

One thing I have learned by spraying roundup on grapevines, pepper bushes and air potato plants is that you need enough leaf surface to absorb enough poison to kill the roots..I know when they are small shoots coming from a larger root system and I spray, it kills the leaves but not the root. When I let them grow a bit until they have more leaves it kills the whole plant.
What you have is likely not too big of a root since you missed it when trying to clear out the bananas.
I also must agree, I would not let strangers dig my pups, I don't even get it right every time.

If they weren't basjoo you could just wait for winter.
