I am having trouble identifying what this is
Hi guys i have been growing sugar banana trees for the past 6 months and i believe i am a newbie lol.
I have identified a strange fungus on 3 of the bottom leaves. The fungus is located under the leaf not on the visible side. It sort of looks like dirt has caked under the leaf a very fine layer accompanied by a small hole in the leaf and a bit of brown around the hole. I live in sydney Australia, current temperature is 15-20 degrees celcius season = winter. Attached is a few pictures i have taken. 1 of the pictures is a leaf that hasn't been affected. Kind regards |

Re: I am having trouble identifying what this is
OK, definitely a fungal infection, but lucky for you it's not Sigatoka! Looks like one of the mildews to me. Good news! You can treat that very easily with dilute Copper Sulfate spray - this should be available at the chemist's.

Re: I am having trouble identifying what this is
Will the fungal eventually destroy the plant. I treat this thing with seaweed solution which is supposed to keep these things extremely healthy. I also use fertiliser with an NPK of 23.4.18. At one stage the plant got aphids but got rid of them with special spray

Re: I am having trouble identifying what this is
It will eventually - better to nip it in the bud now than lose your bananas to it later.

Re: I am having trouble identifying what this is
Looks like it - it's indicated for mildew, so I'd say give it a shot!
