I Did It, Did It, Banana Blooms Finally!
My Basjoo finally sprouted a beautiful pod in October. I will send pictures very soon. Imagine my contentment, I was dancing with joy together with my son. He keps saying: that banana top looks weird, I said one day, It is getting ready to bloom, I know! and it did. We live in N.C. zone 8 consider coastal area.
It took two seasons for it to bloom. When planted it was about 3 feet. It is a beautiful plant or light green leaves. However, the banans have not grown much. They have stayed the same size for quite a while and they are about 2 inches. Any ideas why? Thank you for letting me share my joy and thank you all for your support, friendship and lessons in h ow to grow these beautiful things. Shopgirl Peace to all.

Re: I Did It, Did It, Banana Blooms Finally!
The reason they are not growing larger is because it is not an edible variety and the fruits need to be pollinated, edible varieties do not need pollination. M. basjoo is an ornamental variety, even if they were pollinated they would form seeds and still be considered inedible.
