![]() Ok, with a lot of help from the forum and others that are knowledgable, I believe I am growing ice cream bananas. With that being said I'm looking for growing tips. On one side of my yard I have a few that are 7-8 foot tall, but the other side are struggling to get to 4 foot. Being new at this I am positive its something I'm doing (or not doing). Each group has between 5 and 8 plants, all are being watered evenly and often (no standing water though) and fertilized with 30-10-10. Any help would be appreciated...I need bananas!

![]() Like any other plant, bananas need the right soil, ph, light and nutrients. Check these conditions on both side and see if they are similar. This can be a concern since we have the same circumstances here. With our sandy soil that percolates very quick it is necessary to add a lot of compost and mulch a lot. Good growing.

![]() I would bet it's soil. I have 'ice cream' bananas growing in several different areas in my yard and only the ones where I heavily modified the soil are doing well.

![]() Pay for a real soil test. Or you might be able to get one done for free at your local Extension. It will reveal if you have any nutrient or micronutrient deficiencies.
