Ice cream new leaf looking like Margarita Banana, yellow greenpale
I put my Ice Cream in the ground about 4-5 weeks ago and it has started growing well but now the latest leaf I got looks more yellow green. Could swear it would have fit perfectly on a MArgarita Banana. I dont see an green veins it is more uniformly pale green in a yellowish way. Very attractive actually, like a perfect MArgarita BAnana, except for the fact that all the other leafs are the normal green.
What is it missing, Iron? I put some iron on it a few days back as well as fertilizer 10-10-10 but I still assume it is lack of nutrition or? I planted an identical Ice Cream in a pot at the same time and it has only nice green leaves... Any insight is appreciated! Btw, I do have a Margarita Banana I found at Lowes and it is not as uniformly yellow green as this one. |

Re: Ice cream new leaf looking like Margarita Banana, yellow greenpale
I'm sure it'll green up once it gets some sun! It's fairly natural for new leaves to be pale in coloration...though again, isn't consistently present. No worries, but let us know how it turns out. I'm sure if you're fertilizing that things will turn out fine.

Re: Ice cream new leaf looking like Margarita Banana, yellow greenpale
I find that all of my bananas new leafs look that way until the are unrolled for a few days and start to harden off and turn dark green. If you had a pic, I could tell you if I think its just new or if something might be wrong.

The only way to know for sure is a soil test but it does sound a bit like either an Iron or Nirtrogen deficiency. You can send in a soil sample to your local agricultural extension agency for a nominal fee.

Re: Ice cream new leaf looking like Margarita Banana, yellow greenpale
Get some 20-5-30 fertilizer.
Richard has it on his site: Plants That Produce I order the 25lb bag each year. Probably have to get more this year as the crop is beginning to expand His fertilizer/feed is the same you'll find on ebay and other places, just at a fraction of the costs. And he ships Priority Mail so you'll be feeding your plants super soon.
