ID cold hardy bananas in Alabama pls?
One of my wife’s kids lives in Birmingham, AL and has a terrific thick stand of bananas circling his pool area. I’d say the trees are about 10’ to the crown on most, some larger. I saw bunches on a few, he says he gets bunches every year but inevitably the cold catches them and they never grow and mature. They look as they’d be about 10 hands with about 10 fruits each. I’m not able to post an image but was wondering if any of our Alabama folks would have any idea as to what they might be.
I brought a couple home to Florida and they’re going gangbusters! They are a great looking plant, straight as an arrow, stout, and green. Can’t wait to see the bunches I may get. |

Re: ID cold hardy bananas in Alabama pls?
That plant could potentially be any number of varieties, no way to tell without pics. Even then, its important to post pics of the whole plant, the flower once it emerges and the fruit.....the more info you can provide, the more likely you can get a positive ID. Posting pics to the site is easy, but not necessarily intuitive.
Just make sure you compress the photos for web pages or email - I use Microsoft Office Picture Manager and its very straightforward, but any software will do. If you try and upload full size images to your gallery it won't tell you there is a problem, it just won't upload. Have a look at this thread, and if you are still having issues, let us know. How to post images in your threads Good luck, and we'd love to see that plant!

Banana Gallery - stkfox Gallery
I went a round about way and added two pics to the gallery ‘stkfox’. Hope the link works. The plant kinda looks like a very healthy, bigger, and stout cavendish. Leaves are about 19” broad as compared to my Manzanas at about 16”. |

Re: ID cold hardy bananas in Alabama pls?
That's a Nice looking plant!
To embed your gallery pics into the thread post, you are most of the way there, now all you have to do is copy and paste the URL to the right of "Code for bulletin boards:" which looks something like [url=http://www.bananas.....] - It will be right under the pic in your gallery - I include the end brackets, don't know if that is necessary but it works Now we'll wait for someone who knows what they're talking about the ID the plant ---- probably won't be until it flowers and fruits, but you never know
