Jamaican Red Ripeness?
I've heard conflicting information about how to tell that the Jamaica Red bunch is ripening.
One is that it turns purple almost black, the other that it turns yellow. And the real story is?? |

Re: Jamaican Red Ripeness?
I think 6 months is closer to ripening. As for color change the only thing I remember is that they didn't change all that much. Maybe a little lighter if anything.

Re: Jamaican Red Ripeness?
Color is not always a good indictator of ripeness. try slightly squeezing the top ones, when they begin to feel softer they are definetly ripening.

Re: Jamaican Red Ripeness?
They will turn yellow like a regular banana, but they will still have their red color as well, so the affect it a warmer, softer, orangy-red color. Mine usually need 5-6 months to ripen on the "tree".
