I have a dwarf orinioco and the last several leaves have developed a brown streak or two in the leaves as they are forming and it causes them to tear as they unroll.
Could this be from sunburn or a symptom of something worse?

The growth has slowed down as well.
It is in a container and gets fed tortoise manure, bat guano and macaw droppings composted by worms.

I tried to include an image but it appears to have gone elsewhere, (successfully, I might add)

Hmmm...not sure quite what's causing your problem. I'm pretty sure mine have done that a few times before, though (not orinoco, but other types). Unfortunately, I don't have an answer for ya, so we'll both wait for the experts on this one.

But to keep this from being a totally worthless post, I'll put your pics here so everyone can see them!

Ray, the problem doesn't appear to be systemic but I'd need to see close-ups of the leaf surface to be sure. Had the identical problem with a Basjoo. Once I had it in unfertilized soil for about 3 weeks, the problem cleared up.
BTW, I designed a step-by-step guide to photos, recently. If you'd like a copy, I can foreward it.
I'd say drop back on fertilization but close-ups would help & would like to hear some more opinions from other members.

During the past few weeks several of my plants have done this as well. No browning but the leaves are starting to unfurl before fully emerging from the p- stem causing a tear here and there.

Same with ours, especially the Blue Javas. Had a 6-8 foot leaf that I thought was going to rip itself apart before it could fully emerge .

BTW, pm'd for help on the "browning" thing. That part has me puzzled.

Brown is usually a sign of underwatering or inconsistent watering. Or watering not matching changing weather (change in temp, humidity, etc).

Looks like a watering issue combined with wind effects to me. I have Rosados that do this all the time in the wet season, because the water they're getting varies greatly then (from mild showers to tropical torrential downpour)

Keep in mind the higher up and larger the leaves the easier it is to get torn by wind. You might not get any tearing at all on small lower leaves.

Thanks to the individual that fixed them.

These are actually unfurling before they are completely emerged.
If it was just wind I wouldn't care.

If it's just a water/fertilizer issue I can play with that.

I was concerned it might be some sort of virus sine it coincided with a slow down in growth.
The rest of the leaves look fine and the leaves with the issues are fine except where the tears are.
This plant is in a container and needs to go in the ground, I just need to finish up some tree removal in the part of the yard where it's going.

Last year before Hurricane Gustav all the bananas I tend to were looking fantastic - tall and solid fronds. Then....

It was amazing. Took about a month for them to be totally replaced. The ones that were leaning eventually straightened up. Some fell over completely and floated around.

Amazingly, at first, not one banana died from the salt water that sat for 3 days - and then a week later we got the exact same height of storm surge from Ike. That did kill some other plants but no bananas.

However, a Yellow Star, Siam Ruby and the two Ensetes did eventually die so it was a long term effect from the salt, as it usually is, I'm guessing.
